Video card with S Video in or a tv/ Capture card.
Either one will do it, capture card about 50.

Most newish Geforce cards ahve S Video in (or composite)

Pinnacle pro but shop about could get a cheaper one, Pc World have a good selection but very expensive.

I copied a load of Hi8 to DVD and SVCD worked fine.

Need a bit of HD space for encoding tho about 10 GB but whe you done you can delete it.

http://www.ulead.com/vs/runme.htm prolly the best software you can get for its price.

That would work but only 1 version has a stereo line in.

I used a crappy capture card and some software from MGI (videoshop i think) it was years ago but it works well and quality was good.

This video capture device from Plextor might be of interest to you:

PCMag.com have a review of it. Not sure if its available in Europe yet but Plextors European web site does list it.
