Ok I was thinking back to the old shows I used to watch as a kid Transformers, MASK, He-Man etc. and I remembered one but I can't remember the name for love nor money. It was basically about a group of futuristic cyborg-esque cops who fought some cyborg-esque bad guys. I think the leader of the good guys was a black guy who wore a yellow trenchcoat and one of the bad guys had a pair of machine guns attached to his chest.

Ok not much info there I know sorry :(. I'm 19 so this show would have been on around the late 80's - early 90's I'm guessing.

Anyone have a clue as to the show I'm on about? Or do I sound like an escaped mental patient? Any info would be welcomed as its wrecking my head trying to remember the name.

No, you're not mad, it was called C.O.P.S. (Central Organisation of Police Specialists) and you can take a trip back here - C.O.P.S.

Wow! Now that truely is a blast from the past.

    Memories
    1) watching it early on weekday mornings on 'Sky' before I went to school.
    2) being impressed with it purely because it didn't look like anything else on the go at the time.
    3) it was a lot more violent than other kids show at the time too (or was it?)

I cant remember much about it tbh 'cept what I said in the previous post. They were all robots/cyborgs in some way and all had a special ability sort of thing. I do remember I loved it though!

*waits patiently for C.O.P.S. to be shown on Toonami or Fox Kids*

ah C.O.P.S, i remeber they had a video of it down my local video library and me and my bro rented it one christmas thinking it would be a movie length, like 2 hours or something but it was only like 2 episodes long...

great show..brought back loads of memories

Yes. Actually have the theme tune (sung by Billy Connolly, for those of you who didn't know) on my P.C. here:

    Stand back Superman,
    Iceman, Spiderman,
    Batman & Robin too.
Don't wanna cause a ruckus for B.A. Baracus,
But I've got a match for you.
She makes them look like a bunch of fairies.
She's got more bottle than United Dairies.
    Hang about,
    Look out,
    For Supergran.
    She's a serious granny (Supergran).
    A serious granny (Supergran).
She'll do things that'll you'll never see your granny do.
(Guy with deep voice) "Is there nothing she cannae do?"
    Hang about,
    Look out,
    For Supergran.

And yes, I did just type all that from listening to the theme tune right now! :D

Yes, remember that very well, too. Got the Forty Coats annual for Christmas one year. Come to think of it, it must have been Christmas 1985 because there was a thing near the back of it about Bob Geldof and Live Aid that year.

Remember this as well, though only vaguely.

Sorry, this one doesn't ring any bells for me, I'm afraid.

Still though, also adding in the fact that I remember He-Man and She-Ra very well, I guess you're not the only old fogey who hangs around in here, Lainey. Not that I'm calling you an old fogey or anything, of course! :D

It was Jimbo the aeroplane and Tickle on the Tum was unique lol Puddle Lane was pretty much a total copy of it though.

it was Jimbo and the Jetset was it not?

also re: COPS, i remember an episode where there was a guy training fleas and the king flea was called Gaylord. even as a kid it seemed funny!

the leader of the COPS was called B.P. Vess (as in bullet proof cos he had a metal chassis stuck on his chest, i think). great show

Of course! The theme's tune already been posted, but does noone else remember having a Supergran story in their English reader in primary school?? It was the best story of the lot! Okay, so I can't remember what happened as such, but it was on a literary par with Ulysses.

    forty coats
Yep. In fact I used to take part in a fancy dress parade in Carlingford, a score or so years back. One year my sister dressed up as the "Lady in Red" from Chris "the Nanny's hot" deBurgh's song. She came in first place and - to the jealously of all - was awarded her prize by Forty Coats. We have the pictures to prove it.

    jumbo the aeroplane
Jimbo and the Jet Set info

Nice easy viewing and a great little theme tune, which basically saw a load of creatures and things shouting "Jimbo!" Budgie the Helicopter had nothing on this.

anyone remember DJ Cat show and his competition "Risk a Crisp" were you had to post a crisp and if it survived intact you won a prize?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,186 ✭✭✭davej

Wasn't that risk a crisp thing on the childrens' channel?

I swear they used to purposefully break the crisps so they wouldn't have to pay out..they had such a pathetic budget.

Risk a Crisp was on The Children's Channel, the whole show was set on a train if I remember corectly...

One time someone from Ireland sent in a Burger Bite and they'd never seen one before in the UK and it just totally blew their minds... they disqualified it though... too bad...

I loved that show ... here's a bit of a useless quiz, what were the names of the butler and the red headed girl??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,048 ✭✭✭Lainey

slightly bonkers was the girl anyways.. don't know about the butler..

  • Registered Users Posts: 455 ✭✭penguinbloke

Only Billy Connoly could find something that rhymes with B.A. Baracus

    and make it work.
(before anybody tries to come up with half decent baracus rhymes)

Yeah, Slightly Bonkers was the girl alright and, if I remember correctly, So Far So Good was the name of the butler-type guy.

And, of course, the Whirlygig Witch was the baddie.
