Hi, I was wondering if you could help me establish a price for this machine, as I haven't a clue about macs. Its an ibook model 106, with a g3 500mhz cpu, 128mb ram, 14gig ibm drive, 8mb ati graphics. I guess the screen is 12". It comes with OS 9.2, I suppose it wouldn't be worth putting OS X on it anyway. Its in perfect nick.. the owner reckoned on €700, but I think its more like €400-500. Thanks in advance for any advice.

you should visit eBay and do a search under 'completed items' for this exact model. Then you'll get an idea.

I reckon about 450 / 500 is about right, I certainly wouldnt pay any more for this model, considering the new ones just got released a few weeks ago for 1200 euro Brand new for the 1ghz model with Ilife and OSX panther and CDRW 32 meg graphics more ram etc. etc.

Is it a white one or clamshell model ?

If its a clamshell then your screen has a max of 800 x 600 (which aint great for alot of apps) and i'd offer him 400 euro max.

Might be better off hunting down a powerbook g3 400 / 500 on ebay should be able to pick one up for about the same money and they have waaaayyy more ins / outs / and performance than the 500mhz ibook due to 4x the cache size, and you can run dual screens happily :) and have the expansion of a PCMCIA slot if you want to run anything through that.

p.s. my powerbook G3 333 runs osx happily with 9.2 on the second partition
