I work for a security company and i did overtime one week and then when i didn't get it on my paycheck i asked why, and was told it was a 2 week roster they have(even though the vast majority of people only get a one week roster, myself included) and that the overtime is based over the 2 weeks, so u have to do over 80hrs between the 2 weeks to get overtime. When i first heard this i thought it sounded a bit off and i still do. I asked one of the mobile patrol drivers and he was like, what thats not it at all. So what i want to know is can they do this? i didn't agree to any deal that said this.

if you're paid for 40 hours a week

and only did 80 hours over two weeks

i fail to see how you did over time...

    maybe i misunderstood the question

i think what he means is if you do say 50 hours in week one and >30 in week 2. ifirc i had this in a job where we got paid bi-weekly, and they pretty much made sure that while u might do more than 40 hours one week u rarely did over 80 in 2 weeks.

As them to put it in writing, and see if its in your contract, if it isn't ask them why not. If they won't give you it in writing then its probably a loophole they are exploiting.

Lots of companies try to insist that only 2 hours or more per day count as over time. So if you work 1 hour extra every day you don't get paid for it. WFT work 5 hours or over a half a day for free? Its legal now that you have to either get paid or time in lieu for any hours worked. But some places still try it on.

Of course they could just sack you if you won't do them. Had a bust up with my LAST employer about it.
