Boot Up Problem

    Hi,
I'm hoping someone could help me here.
Basically, my dad has put some old components into a friends computer. You see we upgraded a while back so these parts were just lying about.
These parts are from a Gateway amd 600mhz.
He has put the "Gateway" motherboard, Amd 600mhz, tnt2 video card, a 56k modem, and a stick of ram into his friends computer.

The rest of the parts were there already...
    Jeantech 300w power supply.
a CD drive and a separate Dvd writer drive.
    Hard Drive
    And Floppy Drive.

So anywhoo, when i try to boot it up, there is no display, but there is a series of beeps. 2 beeps, 7 beeps, 2 beeps , 1 beep. That might not be an accurate description but its hard to tell.
There's nothing in the old manuals about the beep codes.
I'm not really good at the hardware side of things so i'm at a loss really as to whats wrong.

Any help would be much appreciated :)
    thanks!

aye, all parts were working grand in the old pc.
All the parts are in the right places.
Motherboard was lying around for a few months...maybe its damaged but i don't think so.
I have a feeling all the wires aren't in the right places but i wouldn't really know to be honest.

Try removing everything and see if it partially boots, just leave the cpu, ram and graphics card. If it does, you will see some sort of disk not found error, then add things one by one.
Also check that all components are secure in their slots and that no dirt has got in.
    Can't think of anything else.

ok, after a bit of fiddling, i removed everything bar the motherboard, cpu, video card...no beeping...
i then added the ram, starts beeping...so it must be the ram then. but the thing is, there was a stick of ram that was already in the pc before dad started fiddling so it obviously worked grand...and also the other stick that he added worked fine before the upgrade...
I tried using both sticks in all the slots, different combinations...beeps everytime.
Theres no obvious sign of damage on either...i really stumped now hehe

Try some of your upgraded Pc's ram, if it fooks it up, you know the motherboard is crap.
Is this one of those mobos with a load of switches?
Do switches matter? I dunno! Never dealt with them.
