Summer Blockbusters

Just want to see what big films people are looking forward to from the upcoming "Blockbuster" season.

Van Helsing is going to be the first one out. Written and directed by Stephen Sommers(Mummy and Mummy 2), I don't have high hopes for this but hope to be pleasently surprised.

Troy, looks amazing, has an amazing cast. Think it's about 3 hours long. Should be a cracker in Gladiator/Lord of the Rings mould.

Spiderman 2, more of the same and it will be great. Hope the special effects on Dr Octo are up to scratch.

Harry Potter 3, darkest of the series yet. As a fan of the books, I think this will break records no matter how well it is done. With Alfonso Cuarón replacing Chris Columbus this is another that I have high hopes for.

One other film I just heard about today is Garfield, with Bill Murray doing the voice. Not a classical "Blockbuster" but really looking forward to that too.

Anyone got any films they are just itching to see this summer?

I'm really looking forward to Spidey 2, Hellboy & The Day After Tomorrow. Troy could be good, but some of the lines in the trailer are so damn cheesy. Harry Potter 3 could be interesting, but I haven't liked the first two. I'm rooting for Garfield, hopefully it's good.
Going to see Van Helsing tomorrow, don't have high hopes at all...

Other Big Summer Movies I'm looking forward to:

    *Shrek 2
*The Village -- the new M Night Shyamalan movie.
*The Chronicles of Riddick -- Pitch Black sequel.
*Stepford Wives -- remake with Nicole Kidman.
*Sky Captain & The World of Tomorrow -- animated retro scifi.
    *Thunderbirds.
*The Punisher -- more comic book stuff, but damn Thomas Jane is hot :D

Some of the more interesting movies aren't out til later in the year. 'Alien Vs. Predator' looks well cool & I can't wait to see 'The Incredibles', the new Pixar/Disney movie. The teaser trailers are hilarious. Pity it's not out til December.
'Blade Trinity', 'Wimbledon' & '13 Going on 30' are other movies I'm waiting to see.

    2 Stinkers:

*I, Robot -- Will Smith, yawn.
    *Catwoman -- Halle Berry, yawn.

Lady Killers got mediocre reviews here (states).

Hellboy I thought was very good but not great, it has a 'small' feel to it, kind've like Blade2 imho. Worth seeing in the cinema though.

Van Helsing 'looks' cool, lets hope the story matches up, but Hugh Jackman rarely picks turkeys.
Same for The Day After Tomorrow, worth seeing on the bigscreen if for nothing other than seeing the fx in all their glory.

The one I'm most looking forware to is The Chronicles of Riddick.

I don't really have an interest in The Ladykillers. Saw the trailer before. It doesn't grab me, and I'm not a Tom Hanks fan, so I'll be skipping that one!

Van Helsing, I don't think even 'looks' cool. The FX seem to have been stretched too far with the various villains, making none of them look individually impressive. Comparisons with the FX in the 'Day After Tomorrow' and 'Spider-Man 2' trailers really highlights the shoddy look to some of the monsters in 'Van Helsing'. Hopefully they'll look better in the film proper but I doubt it.

I'm really looking forward to SpiderMan 2. i loved the first one and cant wait for the second. The Ladykillers looks good, i'm a big fan of Tom Hanks, i think that will be a good one.

Sherk 2 looks brilliant, I think The Day After Tomorrow will be one of those Disaster films you can only watch once but it should be good......i hope.

I never liked Thunderbirds so i wont be watching that film.

Troy is the new Gladiator film but i'm not a fan of Brad Pitt( apart from when he was in snatch ) but i think i will see if it is any good.

    * 'Troy' despite the annoying amount of ads. Swash-buckling epics, Graecen style.

    * 'The Day After Tomorrow' looks like it could be an awful lot of fun. Jake Gyllenhaal is a decent actor and seeing cities smashed apart, and an Apocalypse, is always interesting. And someone I know saw an advanced screening and said that it was very good.

    * 'The Chronicles of Riddick' should nicely fill my new for big ships. I enjoyed 'Pitch Black' far more than I felt I should have so a sequel's a good thing.

    * 'The Stepford Wives' because it's got amusing potential and Nicole Kidman. Having said that, scenes in the movie are being reshot currently because of negative reaction from test screening audiences....

    * Shrek 2. Donkey - enough said.

'Spiderman 2' I can take or leave - the first was mindless tripe and I don't expect much from this sequel. 'Harry Poter 3' I'm also ambilvalent towards - the first two films were uninspired if, like me, you hadn't read the books. The trailer is also quite dull. 'Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow' has an interesting idea but not sure it'll be all that good.
