I suspect there may be a virus but here is the situation

    1. XP Machine ~3months old
    2. Idiot didnt avail of the free norton AV on it
    3. Launches OE and it crashes saying problem withing to memory
    4. Also shuts down saying the shutdown has come from NT Authority LSA

Any ideas? I suspect a blaster and sasser combo?

if the warning is from LSASS its Sasser.

There's a couple of ways of fixing it, the best is probably to install the MS patch that addresses it and get the removal tool from symantec.

shutdown -a in the meantime to stop it shutting down while you download the patch.

maybe you should get a firewall once you have this sorted, it should prevent these types of worm from affecting you.
