    Hey all,

The last few problems i've had i posted here and they've all got sorted so a friend of mine came to me with a problem the other day and i told him to post here but he can't get registered so i'm posting this on his behalf

    Spec

    Elite k7s5a
    amd 2000+
    80 gig maxtor
    512 corsair
    300 watt power supply (codegen)
    midi tower

He had win2000 on it, but loaded on XP and it went a treat, using away at it, even turned it on and off a few times to make sure it was working. Left it and next morn, it wouldn't boot. You can hear the hard drive crunching for a few seconds, but no beeps and it just tries to read from the cd drive. tried putting in the xp cd to boot it, but still no luck.

The bios can't be accessed and i've tried clearing the CMOS but no luck, the system speakers are set up properly so if there were any beeps i'd hear them. It's a strange one that has me stumpt

    Any ideas?

    As always cheers

Does the computer stay on? Ie after you press the button does it PC stay powered on until you switch it off or does it cut off itself?

Are you sure it isint starting and the monitor isint picking up on it? Generally if its a Ram problem you get a load of beeps. It seems to get to the hard disks etc. Can you see anything on screen?

Has your mate moved his pc in the last while?

Had a similar prob at a lan 2 weekends ago. Could not get at the bios, no post beeps and no signal going to the monitor. Remount of the GFX did the trick after much hair pulling, ram remounting, cmos resetting and a lot of swearing:-)

Another thing that might cause the probs for your friend is a cable tripping the motherboard. Worth checking as it gives the same probs as your friend is having i.e. no post beeps, cant get at bios etc...

Hope that helps some and best of luck.

Why can't he access the BIOS? Did he try holding down the Del key?
Did he attach a speaker to the mobo to hear any beeps? BIOS beeps come through the PC speaker, (not the main Speakers, which don't work until the PC has booted and sound drivers are installed)

Turning on with no beeps leaves 5 possibilities.

    1) Dead/Not properly connected processor
    2) Dead/Not properly connected RAM
    3) Dead/Not properly connected Graphics card
    4) Dead motherboard
    5) Dead/Not properly connected system speaker.

If you're lucky, it's #5. Test with a PCI or other GFX card for number 3. If you have 2 sticks of RAM, try different combos of RAM. If you've got a spare comtaible processor you can try 1, but realisticly if it's #1 or #4 you can either go to a PC repair shop or send away one of them and hope you're right....

    Hey,

The computer does stay on after its turned on, it tries the hard drive, then tries the cd rom then restarts and does it all over again, no bios screens available and nothing appears on the monitor.

The system speaker works fine, it's connected properly and worked previous to this. Tried resetting the ram and clearing the cmos. I'll not get a look at it again till monday but it's looking like a processor problem i think

    Cheers
