i wanted to buy some musical equipment
and thomann looked like a great net shop
    great selection,good prices, cheap delivery
but after i made an order for €1200 i got an email asking me to fax or email a copy of my credit card with signature and the header from a card statement
now they say this must be done because its such a big order but surely its not such a big order for a shop that size, they much get orders like this daily
i dont have access to a fax machine and emailing cc details is not safe
not sure what to do :(

Tell them to go jump, and try buying whatever it is from here: http://www.musicstore.de. Thomann have been doing that a lot lately for some reason. It's total bollocks, that's what the verification code is for. A company should never ask for a copy of your card. Call the credit card company and see what they say about it. If you can't get the item elsewhere you could consider paying by bank transfer... but that'd be kinda giving in.

I put an order through for €150 a fortnight ago, and the processed that without question. What I don't like is the way they debit my card straight away, even though they might not ship the goods for another week.

My bud ordered an amp and a soundcard off them recently. They sent the wrong card and the amp blew up after a day! Still, I'd rather take the risk when the stuff works out at half price compared to Irish stores. They refunded my bud with no questions asked.

I have placed an two orders with them over the past couple of months. One for €400 and another for €800. Customer service was good. They replied to emails quickly. Orders arrived on time with out any problems.

I've made multiple orders from Thomann over two years now. There has definitely been a noticable decline in the customer service in the last six months.

Its pretty standard security practice for big orders on the internet to ask for a photocopy of the card etc. Its to make sure you havent stolen someones number. If someone ever gets a copy of your card number you will appreciate it.

    Bollox it is.
There's a seven digit number on the back of every credit card.
The last three digits of that number are used as a security verification that you are the owner of the card.
Your credit card company will tell you this, and recommend that you do not fax any copy of the card to anyone.

I had the same problem with Thomann.
I told them this wasn't required, after getting in touch with them about my order, 10 days after placing it.
    It was on hold.
    They hadn't bothered telling me.
I passed on the info my credit card company had given me about the process, and they were completely ignorant of how to use the 3 digit security code.

    DODGY DODGY DODGY!

    Go with Musicstorekoeln.de
They know how to process transactions properly and have an Irish rep, and are much much quicker delivery wise too.

    Youre totally right Fitz.
I was asked for photocopies from a couple of companies before. Didnt give it to them due to lack of photocopier. Was on Visa website now reading advice. I feel silly and glad I sent no photocopies.

DONT SEND CREDIT CARD INFO VIA EMAIL. EVER.

Apparantly its becoming very common to recieve emails asking for this as a big motherfvcking scam. The scammers basically make their email look as thought its coming from a reputable site that you just made a purchase from and ask for verification. Goddamn Bastards.

Oh and Tuxx, email Visa with whoever sent this email. This probably isnt Thomann at all and if its not get cops after 'em.

Well, Thomann have been genuinely doing this for whatever reason. I've been on the phone to Ivan Smith about it. I gave them **** over it, but obviously it didn't make much impact.

    Hi Guys,

I am going to buy my brother a drum kit for his birthday and I saw one on thomann.de for €222 (hes only a beginner so it doesn't have to be an expensive one).

This thread is making me doubt my decision to buy from them now. Could you guys let me know what you think of them? Should I buy from them or from someone else?

Oh, and although I am in Ireland, I would need it shipped to Scotland, where he is. I don't think that'll be a problem?

His birthday is the start of next month so I would need to know when to order to get it there on time. I know I would probably be better to contact thomann for that kinda stuff but I would prefer to get the opinions of people who had dealt with them.

    Any replies/suggestions would be appreciated.

Sorry for the long post! :)

Try em. If they give you the credit card speel try somewhere else. Aside from that they're generally pretty reliable. Just email them periodically to make sure they're telling you the situation. In terms of shipping, Scotland is fine, but it can take anything from 1-2 weeks to ship anyway, so I don't know how well you could time the delivery.
