hey , I am thinking about buying a plasma TV and was looking at 2 models which are very similar but the difference is that one of them has a contrast ratio of 700:1 and the other one is 3000:1, there is a 500 euro difference between these 2 models and was wondering is it worth spending the extra few bob on the 3000:1, will the quality be much greater on this one???
    cheers...

Look at the two of them side by side and make your own choice.. the higher contrast ratio model should give more vibrant colours and darker blacks in a brightly lit room than the lower ratio model.

Thanks for that Kali, but the problem is I haven't seen the TV's beside each other because they are in different shops, the thing was is it worth it to pay an extra 500 euro for the 3000:1 contrast, is it that much better??

yes go for the extra 500 quid, its worth it. i work in a tv shop and we have two plasmas beside each other. one is a panasonic with 4000:1 and the other is an LG with less than 1500:1 and the difference is unbelievable. when the snooker was on last week the colour in the panasonic absolutely kicked the lg's ass

adamlester, just one more thing on the tv's, is the resolution the same on both of them eg(852 x 480)??

im not sure about the resolution but that doesnt effect the picture quality as much as the contrast ratio. well it does effect the pic but a tv with a higher contrast ratio would have the better picture

ok, thats a bit clearer now,
