if i cancel my present uk subscription giving one months notice to sky, could i get an roi sub using an address in clonmel or limerick.
do i ask for a second hand contract for either address, apply using my direct debit details and when the card is sent to me from the roi address do i just put it in the digibox and i will receive rte etc.
do you have to have the phone line connected for second hand contracts.
any help or information would be great.

    many thanks
    kieran

Once your initial 12 months are up, if you get a sub, you do not need to connect the phoneline. In fact, DO NOT connect the phoneline if you get an Irish sub in NI. Otherwise, sky will be able to tell what you're up to and they'll find out. Anyway, because the irish card will try to dial out an Irish no., and you're in the UK, interactive etc. won't work

An Irish sub requires an Irish bank account if you are using the direct debit method of payment. The payments are collected through an Irish bank. This is why they are able to offer the direct debit to Irish subscribers, otherwise exchange rates would come into the equation.

A secondhand contract does not require a line (UK or Irish).

Not sure what the situation regarding UK credit cards paying for Irish subs are.

Best solution would be if your contact in Clonmel or Limerick were to take out an identical package there, you take out the same package in NI and then swap boxes and cards- best of both worlds so to speak, as the contact would benefit from the ITV channels which they cannot get through an aerial that far south, and you benefit from RTE etc.

The RTE channels, although part of the Family pack, are married to the box on which the card is issued to/activated on.

There were recent issues with credit card payments in relation to sky where certain banks were not fowarding the direct debit requests to the new credit cards when the old ones expired.
You had to set up a new direct debit manually.
Some people not knowing that, had their sky turned off as Sky weren't receiving any payments.

The credit card payments don't actually cause an issue for sky as they still request the same amount of Euro from your card.
If it's a UK card then it it you that will pay any ex rate change.

many thanks for the replies received.
i cancelled my uk sub yesterday and i tried to order an roi sub today.
i phoned sky and everthing was going well until i had to give my payment details.
when i gave them my sort code and account number i was told that the details i gave were invalid.
i told the girl that the bank account was a uk account but she said that would't make any difference and she re-entered the numbers again but still no luck.
anyone know what i should do next and would using a credit card make any difference.

    kieran

    Possibly
the software rejected the UK account details when the box for an Irish sub was ticked on her pc screen.

If so, it shouldn't be able to recognise where your visa card has came from

As far as I know, Sky have an Irish bank account for drawing Irish direct debits, so you MUST use an Irish account. Most UK banks are reluctant (Or at least Sky's UK Bank) to draw a dd on an Irish account as exchange rates come into play.

Therefore a ROI sort code will only work for a ROI sub.

Its possible the telesales operator was mistaken, as they often are at Sky.

I was given this information by a subscription channel that offers direct debits to UK subscribers, but only Credit Card transactions to ROI subscribers.
