Changing text size on a tv

Right I've just hooked my pc up to my 36" monitor. However the resolution is grand, except that its a bit too tall but that doesn't bother me too much. The main annoyance is the text size. I can change the size of the title text etc. but the main body of the text is tiny. I have to put the resolution down to 800x600 to read it properly. Is there anyway to change this?

eg.: I can read the boards.ie > Sci/Tech > Technology and all the other bits, like logged in user, Subject etc etc. in this reply bit but the stuff I'm typing is tiny and I can barely read it.

    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks.

edit: Right I've fixed some of this, but the text I'm writing is still tiny. When it's posted it's grand. Other things like the titles of folders on my desktop, My My Computer etc. and the drop-down menus on boards aswell as in the browser itself.
