i was using a miniDV camera to transfer some stuff to my pc with a basic ulead video editor package. the captured images were choppy and the audio was coming in after you see it on the screen. i then got premiere 6 and it didnt capture. i was told to get my card made un-texas instruments, done that and still no joy. i have selected all the right settings and still nothing. any ideas would be great. ps i recorded the footage on the same camera if that makes any difference

Your hard drive is too slow to playback Digital Video.

You need a 7200rpm HDD, yours is most likely 5400rpm

Your hard Drive cant read the data fast enough off your drive, and you've probably dropped tonnes of frames while capturing too.

I had the EXACT same problem a few years ago when I switched from Analog capture to DV. My 5400rpm drive worked fine for Analog, but when I got a firewire card and a DV camera, it wouldn't work.

If you're using Windows 98SE/ME try activating the DMA mode of the hard drive.

ok, how do i do that? will it have any other side effects that could mess up my hdd

Windows 98/ME: Right click on 'My computer.' Select Properties -> Device Manager. Double-click on 'Disk Drives' -> and then on 'Generic IDE type**' -> Settings -> and tick the DMA box. If you have multiple hard drives, it's best to enable DMA for all of them. If you don't have 'Generic IDE type**' listed in your Device Manager, download and install the latest drivers for your motherboard.
