Swapping to a Laptop

I have the choice atm to swap my PC for a laptop with very similar specs.
It will cost me nothing to do, except the ability to watch TV on my PC, and a bit of HD space, which I can put on my other PC anyway.

If you had the choice, would you do it?

I'm very torn, as I like the idea of a base PC, but also really really want a laptop.

Would you swap to a laptop? 9 votes

Laptops are infactthe best thing evar and given that you can by an external harddrive cradle for not so much it doesn't really limit storage that much, it also means you can have your pc any where :>

Laptops are fine unless you're a gamer, as mentioned above. The touchpads are crappy, but there's nothing stopping you plugging in a USB mouse. If you hang on to your old PC's keyboard/monitor/speakers/etc you could just set up a docking station for use when you're at home, giving you all the things you have with a desktop pc.

I use both. To be honest, I was using the laptop more (supplied by work) when surfing (while wathcing telly, professional couch potato me) and I was using it for gaming too. The likes of UT, Warcraft III, even UT 2003 ran well (a Dell Latitude D800 with a gig of RAM and decent gfx - has to run mapping software for work) and it was just fine! Was great for bringing away too.

I had a desktop too, but it was built in 2000 (Athlon 800) so I left the g/f using it. That's how it was till I built the rig in my sig, and to be honest, I don't turn on the laptop at home anymore! :) The desktop gives you greater scope for all sorts of things, but the laptop is really neat and tidy.

    I'd say it's a lifestyle choice! :)
