last night i was trying to use my mic on my new comp but it didn't seem to work at all. I wanted to use it for talking on skype and teamspeak. I know the mic works cuz one the other computer(the parents comp) its works fine but on this comp it doesn't. I have an audigy 2 soundcard and i have the mic plugged into the slot that has the little mic pic beside it. I tried moving to others slots just to be sure that they didn't work. The mic is a bog standard one that i got off and old compaq we and had been using it fine with no probs until now when i tried it on my new comp. Any know what the problem is and how to fix it?

    try going to start/programs/accessories/entertainment/volume control
    click on options, then 'properties'
click on the 'recording' radio button & then click ok to close that option screen.
click the check box below microphone...
that should hopefully sort you out

Try muting the line in in sound properties. I have to do that any time I want to use the mic.

nah that still doesn't make it work. I really haven't a clue what the prob could be cuz it worked fine on the other computer and i never had any trouble with it. any further suggestions of what it might be?

I assume you have the mic un-muted in the volume control and it's volume is turned up?

I'd look into getting some new drivers for it... my SBLive has a funky-pants volume/mixer app that really likes to call the shots.
You mightn't have this mixer if you're using windows own drivers and such.
    Worth a shot at least.
