Well, seeing as it's a bank holiday I suggest we postpone the game to Wednesday next week.

I have an alternative module ready (you will need a hak file which you can find HERE - a 176k download ).

For those of you without winzip PM me for a link to the full hak file (1mb download).

No undead, just lots of giants... oh and hardcore ruleset as well.. makes things much more interesting with death being permanent and all (and healing does not heal you up to full).

    :)

    Whats that? Permanent death?

Dont like the sound of that. Not being able to heal myself up to full?

Crap, I'd have taken the toughness feat last time if i'd known

But them, I am a very scaredy rogue

I'll let the big mean sword waving types risk more traps in future I think...

at least we dont fall asleep on them :p

Considering my less than stellar performance from last night the permanent death has me worried too. Can you stack stoneskins?

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 10,339 Mod ✭✭✭✭LoLth

    nope.

but we are stacked to the gills with res scrolls and I can learn 3 raise deads a day. I would say we're well prepared :)

It makes the game a bit more like the pen and paper game. Will also force us to use tactics and make the rogue even more important for scouting.

Just hijacking your thrad for a sec :)

It might be a good idea for people to keep an eye out for any good persistent worlds we can run while the weekly games arent on. I'm open to all suggestions.

    Right back as you were.

what worries me about the hardcore rules (now that I've read them) isn't that you cant rest all the damn time, as I rarely rest anyway (being a sneaky rogue and all), or the changes to wounding and healing, or that summonned creatures only hang around for a single battle or so - in fact most of those changes seem like improvements to me (though if I was a mage, I'd be ****ting it)....

The problem I see is that each time you die you lose a level of experience....going by yesterdays record, we'd all be down a few levels.

Apart from that one thing, I think the rest of it is quite good actually - does make it more like the PnP version. Though I was brought up on PROPER ressurection, with noone of this losing experience crap. Losing experience from dying? You'd think something like that could only make you gain some :)

That was those rotten water elementals...... stoopid death attack. Only died once apart from them.

Not to mention the Foul Temple. Though I was thinking another 4 letter word starting with F all through that wee gem

though in fairness to us, we came pretty close to pulling that one off with no casualties..although in the end we did all die, it was a close run thing.

If I hadnt let myself get surrounded (those ogres are bigger than they look) then probably we could have all run off and taken them one by one as they came after us through the entrance...I have a few traps sitting in my pack waiting for just such an occassion too.

A quick rest outside halfway through and it would have been easy....but hardcore rules are going to scupper that tactic anyway.

Could anyone point me to a link for the hardcore rules? All I've heard so far are the horror stories and it may have coloured my perceptions somewhat.

I googled for it and came across this on a link from the top result,
so I reckon its probably it

    http://nwn.darkemud.com/~darke/HC/index.htm

if its not, someone should tell me.

if I remember right from reading it earlier this afternoon, resting
is only allowed once every 48 minutes (!), 16 minutes if you
carry around a bedroll, plus if its enabled you need to carry around
food and take off your armour to rest. This isn't so important for
most characters as resting doesnt seem to heal you very much anyway,
but of course if its hardcore, NOT resting every so often probably makes
you fall over and DIE. Also, if im reading it right, if material ingredients
for spells are enabled, you need to use diamond dust every time you
want to cast stoneskin, and diamonds every time you want to
ressurect someone. ouch. Money will be tight buying all those
potions, and I was saving for a nice sword...

Still, it'll make us more careful. I warned ye!

    HCR rules:

    when you die:
you drop to the beginning XP for your current level. Or 500xp loss depending on scenario
Bleeding rules are in place: death at -10
once dead a corpse appears, can be carried to someone who can raise / res you
equip is dropped and can be collected by your party members

rest: as per D&d rules heals 1 hp per level, no more

Rest: once per 8 hours game time. usually requires a bedroll.

In general, unless the author has made some homeset rules (the only one I know of being no food restrictions) you dont need components for spells.

so...the rules I linked to above aren't quite right?

They say that when you die you drop a level and
it sets your experience at half way to the next level.

"When resurrected by any means other than Deity,
you lose 1 level, going to the middle of the previous level"

    Which is a lot worse.....

would you believe im still at work at this ungodly hour?
I dont get paid half enough. Well, im off on holidays now,
up at 7 to get a bus to the exotic far off land of kerry.

so anyway...im up for playing a game this evening....
    8:30 pm or when?

I've taken the day off work so whenever you lot like is fine.

Since it's hardcore, I want to see a lot of running away, people!

and another thing...do I put that .hak file in the NWN/hak directory,
    or somewhere else?

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 10,339 Mod ✭✭✭✭LoLth

    8.30 sounds about right.

The hak file should go into the nwn/hak folder.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 10,339 Mod ✭✭✭✭LoLth

Dammit, yet another mod that wont load. It loaded last week when I tested it but for some reason wont load now.

will put world of Ruhn back up (create a new character for that one) , go back to the drawing board on why the intended scenario wont load and head for the pub :(

    bugger.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 177 ✭✭Mouserat

right so, let us know when you have something ready for us..

I can play whenever, I'll be around all weekend too.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 177 ✭✭Mouserat

    Attention:

Fighter (fourth level), looking for travelling companion to compliment my
    skills with the blade (burglar? magical abilities? nature type? apply within);
first level characters defended to the death, usual renumerations apply.

Look in the world of Ruhn most nights, ask for Sol.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,346 ✭✭✭Rev Hellfire

What u think of world of ruhn.

    Worth keeping ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 177 ✭✭Mouserat

havn't seen much of it to be honest, but what I have I liked good enough.
It seems to have very good hack'n'slash potential for a group of players,
but I was playing it by myself so any time I try to wander around too
much I kept getting killed and zapped back to the town.

Seems big enough though, and I came across a few interesting
sounding quests that there was no bloody way I could attempt
without backup or a much higher level character.

Im easy about trying a new one either if you want to take a look.

I'll most likely pop in tonight around 9ish.

    thief/monk or thief/mage methinks :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 777 ✭✭✭MarVeL

Might drop in myself with a priest methinks

  • Registered Users Posts: 777 ✭✭✭MarVeL

    Where'd everybody go?

Oh well got the cleric up to 4th level so I suppose I'll be readier than I was.

It's an interesting world and I can't wait until I have the 6k or so for the map so I know where I'm going but Ithe way journal entries are (or rather aren't) handled for quests is a bit of a pain

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 177 ✭✭Mouserat
