    hi lads just wondering if anyone had the full version of winzip? is it any good or are there better programs that do the same thing out there?

    hey beofre i start downloading programs i was wondering which one is best or even pros and cons and if any were full verison and free

    the RAR format is a good bit better for compressing than the ZIP format, and its pretty popular too. I'd recommend Winrar, and the trial never runs out for it, which is good for those of us who don't have a lot of cash.

    both a hell of a lot better than winzip (proper multiple volume archiving rocks!)

    7-Zip is a good Winzip replacement. Can compress/decompress most formats.

    And it's Free. Very good really. We have gotten rid of Winzip in here, in favour of 7-Zip.

    maybe slightly OT but was wondering; was winzip the first compression utility available on modern pcs. i remember using it on DOS years ago. pkunzip and all that. how did they not capitalise on what they had? i'd agree that winrar is a good bit better, and more flexible.

    Winzip was the first, but it never really advanced. They choose to retain the compatibility of the zip format rather than change and improve it.
