Am buying a wah pedal sure. Think Ill go for the god aul classic Cry Baby for €77 on Thomann (getting a big order there soon anyway so delivery adds nothing).

Just wondering if people have any suggestions maybe on some other kickass wah pedal that I might be overlooking? (willing to pay about €150 max)

Morley and Vox do quality wahs too, but I have a cry-baby myself. ;)

Go for the Vox and mod it for true bypass.

A little easier said than done, though. Or you'd have modded yours by now... ;)

Get a CryBaby and mod it for True Bypass, more volume, more gain, more mids and more bass, just like mine ;)

How does one mod for this 'true bypass' you speak of? Sir, do you have a schematic to hand? :D

To hand? No, I don't keep schematics in bed :) Basically, it involves a certain type of dpdt switch that has very little travel, some wires and some cutting of copper tracks on the circuit board.

What you do with your hands in bed is your own business, dear boy ;)

Dpdt switch? Some wires? Some cutting of copper tracks? Sounds like way too much trouble for a lazy bastard like me :p

Calling me "dear boy" after that sentence is a bit disturbing.

Ah, it's not hard to do. If you're ever in Dundalk, gimme a shout and I could change it for you in 15-20 minutes or so.

My missus is from Ardee. I'm up there frequently enough. She's alright but can't understand a bloody word the rest of them say. Do you have the crazy accent too? :p:p:p

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

No I don't hai! :D Born in Dublin so that accent is still there a bit. Ah, Ardee's only down the road. If you want me to mod it, just give me a shout. I'll have to find a switch though. Hmmmm.

Nice one man. I dunno if I'd do it though, I like mine the way it is. I dig the cry-baby big time.

Dabhoys has a boss wah which has different switches which emulate different wah models. I assume he'll be around later to sing it's praises.

I prefer mine since it's been modded. Great frequency response.

Could someone be more specific as to what "True Bypass" is?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

When you have a wah plugged in, it will usually suck some of the high end frequencies from the guitar tone. True bypass stops that.

I do indeed have a Boss V-wah and I also have the Classis Dunlop Wah. There both good in there way. I like the V-wah cuz you you have alot of the wahs on it and you change the frequency and create your own wahs. I don't use my wah pedal in the convential porno way. I try to you it to create textured guitar or so I try neway. More of a tone alterations...

Feyla if I give the Doc my Crybaby wah could u do the coversion for me too. I'll pay ya whateva for the swith etc???

I'm sure I could be persuaded depending on when it is. Exams coming up soon so I mightn't have much time but sure, I'll pop to the local guitar emporium and haggle with their switch sales man.

Cool thanks man, well I'm sure the doc will keep me posted. I'll give him mine too. Cheers man...

No worries. I don't think the Doc wants his done. Ah, we'll see what happens. Just let me know how many switches are needed.
