I'm reviewing this dvd on behalf of Greenroom Digital.

When "Stuck On You", the latest offering from The Farrelly Brothers, was released in cinemas back in the New Year period, I chose not to go and see it because, like most people at the time, I expected it to be bad. However, when I got hold of the DVD recently and finally watched it, I was pleasantly surprised.

"Stuck On You" is so-called because the movie centres around a pair of conjoined twins, played by Matt Damon & Greg Kinnear, who share a liver. Probably unrealistically-so, the twins don’t find life difficult at all. They own a fast-food restaurant and work there together. They pleasure their girlfriends happily, using a curtain to separate themselves from each other as they do it. And they exercise together. They love each other, and when they were young, made a pact to never let their deformity hold them back from achieving their dreams, and they never have.
And what could go wrong? Nothing, surprisingly. And that’s what makes this film stand out from almost every other movie out there - nothing does goes wrong. And it’s nice. It’s refreshing. And you’ll be much happier with the movie because of it. It’s less predictable this way.

The movie eases you in very nicely. It’s all about the feel-good factor right from the start. It’s funny in parts, however it’s clear that it’s not going to be a hilarious comedy. But you won’t care about that. It’s very enjoyable to watch. The story begins by showing us the twins going about their daily lives in Martha’s Vineyard, a quiet, happy little town. It all kicks off, however, when the struggling actor of the two, Kinnear’s character, decides that he wants to move to Hollywood and try his luck making movies and hanging with the stars. Reluctant to leave his happy life in MV, Damon’s character eventually decides to support his brother, and goes with him to Hollywood.

Predictably, Kinnear is laughed-at at all of the auditions he goes to. After all, how do you market a conjoined twin as a potentially successful actor? It’s not until Cher turns up (playing herself) that things start to go right for him. Cher has signed a contract to star in a tv show that she now hates and wants to leave, but because of that contract, she can’t. The contract does, however, state that she gets to choose her own co-stars and so, in a bid to get the tv bosses to pull the plug on the show, she chooses Kinnear, in the hope that the show will be a disaster. Much to everyone’s surprise, especially Cher’s, the show is a huge success.

There are no particularly hilarious scenes in this movie. It will, however, make you laugh and smile just the right amount - and it does contain some very, very funny scenes. It’s very easy watching, if at times a little slow and bordering on tedious, but I can only compare it to a calm summer’s day - relaxing, enjoyable, and just what the doctor ordered.

There’s a fight scene that would almost make you wish you were a conjoined twin for a day, and an hilarious scene in which Meryl Streep plays herself. Cher isn’t a great actress, despite her Academy Award, but that won’t hinder your enjoyment of her character. She pulls it off well, and actually becomes very likeable.

There’s also lots of enjoyment provided in Matt Damon’s story in which he meets his Internet love-interest for the first time after 3 years of talking to her online, with some very funny results. And towards the end, the movie becomes a little emotional.

The ending is, however, slow and disappointing, but the movie does what it sets out to do - provide two hours of enjoyment and light relief, and dignified comedy. You will care about and connect with the characters, but the story is a little boring. It doesn’t seem like much effort was put into it. On the other hand, I don’t see how the plot could have been thickened much anyway.

Great performances by Matt & Greg make this movie even more likeable. The strong bond between the two brothers is extremely heart-warming. It boasts a perfectly nice pace (a feature which so many other films usually get so horribly wrong) provides light relief, it’s pleasant to watch, and very, very funny. Rent it when it comes out on May 3rd. You won’t be disappointed.
