What to do...

Ok So I've failed half of the modules in my course and now it's coming up to the end of the year exams and I really don't even see much point in doing them for the simple reason that I wont pass most of them. They will also be repeated again in the summer.

At the moment I am working full time in a shop and I honestly don't know what to do. Going back and studying isn't much of an option but I plan to at least make a bit of an effort for 1 or 2 subjects which I think I might be able to pass. I emailed my lecturers for said course and I can tell they're going to be giving me a hard time over it despite the fact that so far I've remained calm with them.

I feel like going out and kicking someones ass right now and it's not a feeling I like. I want to go back next year despite the fact that I'll probably have to pay at least 1-2 grand to repeat some of the modules/exams.

If I want to repeat the year, will I just have to re-register at the start of next year for the failed exams/modules? Or is it a bit more complicated? I also want to deal with said lecturers as little as possible cause with them giving me a hard time added to how I feel already I know I'll end up losing the head...

    any advice appreciated...

Why are they giving you a hard time???????? so you dossed the year.. you not the first person to.. make a decision whether you want to go back or not for sure.. either study or don't.. if you decide to go ahead go to your college administration and sort something out.. i'd still try cramming and sitting the exams.. even if you fail, then cram again and repeat.. it['s worth a try but only if you really intend on staying the course.. good luck

The only ass you need to kick is your own. Get up off it, study it off and you might have some chance of passing. I'm not trying to be cruel but the fact you've dossed is no-one's fault but your own. Assuming the repeat exams are in August (as they are in most colleges) you'veover three months to prepare for them and therefore no excuse to fail them. That said, getting off your arse now and hitting the books hard may leave you less exams to repeat which would make things easier in the long run.

    Good luck.

as was said above, you need to make choices.

    a) do you want to pass this course and get the qualification.

your lack of commitment could be sympthomatic of a lack of interest. if so, then it might be worth cutting your losses and pursuing something you are interested in. lifes too short to be chasing dead ends, for whatever reason, and you are just wasting time and money if you are going to limp through this year after a repeat and then kick back again the following year.

having made the above decision, and deciding you do want to pass..

    b) you need to decide if you are willing to repeat or if you want to pass it this year.

if it's the former, then leave now and work from now until september and get money together and your head around the fact that you are going to actually have to work at it next year in order to pass. if it's the latter, then you should pick a number of subjects, the number depending on how many you have, and concentrate on them. abandon the rest to a repeat in august/september, i.e. divide the exams between now and then. you are most likely going to have to quit your job until the exams are over, so it comes down to priorities, and obviously your financial situation.

a number of things to keep in mind are:
-don't mind the lecturers, they are mostly only worried about their fail/pass/drop ratios and how it reflects on them. there'll be another litter to replace you next year and they won't be able to tell the difference. besides, they are probably quite stressed at the moment and don't like you pestering them because you failed to put the work in, or get the notes, etc. during the year.
-it's not the end of the world to start something new. sure it will cost money, but it can make a big differnence to be doing something you are actually willing to learn about.
-there is no easy out's, you either get the marks or you fail, and the only way to get the marks is to learn the stuff.

It's amazing how things can look so much better after a good day. I've basically worked things out...I'm going to take 2 weeks off work to have a go at the coming exams, do the repeats, then repeat whatever I have to next year.

    Thanks for the replies though.

So you wasted most of the year, perhaps you lost interest, perhaps you were never interested, perhaps you are doing arts.

you should attempt the summer exams

if you fail repeat in autumn
    it doesnt cost anything
and you have summer to study

pass the autumn exams and your sorted
well they are probably capped at a pass, so no chance of first class, but at least
you can progress with your cohort and save a few grand

repeating a year, even for one module, is expensive
