AFAIK, you are getting black and white when you play it on DVD is because your TV is not NTSC compatable. I have the same problem with my TV. What you can do is re-code your MiniDV to PAL and it should be okay. There are a lot of software out there that will do this for you. Or you could get on of those adapters but the last time I look they were expensive. Also note that XBox has a built in converter so try playing it on a XBox and see whether it gives you colour or not.
