There's so much stuff out there about Quake on the net I'm having trouble getting started. Some help would be cool.

I'm interested in learning to play Quake 1 and 3 well in multiplayer. I played alot of Quake2 back when I bought my first PC in 1998 but didn't really get into the other games. I'm reasonably proficient in Counter Strike, DoD and The Specialists but I've come to realise that if you want to go to LANs you have to school yourself in the classics! :D

I presume you can just dowload the original game at this stage. Where do you recommend I get it and what version? I also remember hearing about some sort of visual modification that makes it easier on the eyes.

Can't find a copy of Q3 in the shops. I guess I'll just keep looking. I like all the different types of mods of HL. Are there any cool ones for Quake3? In fact, if anybody knows any good mod review sites for FPS in general that'd be fantastic.
