Whats with TV3 revamping there text service. For a company like TV3 to be taken as a serious national broadcaster they should really provide a news service on their text. The new 3text is due to launch tonight.

They did provide a news service on the threetext, and as far as i know they will continue to do so. They get their content from the Irish Examiner

Yeah TV3 have had a news service on 3TEXT nearly from the beginning. 2 years in.

    Why a revamp?

I like the way that the keep the NEWS, and TV guide as RTE and TG4. I think it gives good continuity.

Maybe RTE will put TV3 and TG4 on 173 and 174.
And take the 180 idea from TV3
And why does TG4 only update its 180 up to 5:30pm?
TG4 should give full listing not just TG4.

Prehaps they are planning more subtitling services.

Ah, another example of TV3 trimming back anything that equates to cost, and not to revenue. My guess (and it is a guess) is that the Examiner wanted to change terms for its content (which perhaps it has been giving for free), and so TV3 declined to continue with them. And instead of using their own resources to produce this content (at a cost, remember), they have instead elected to offer a showbiz story. No doubt, this 'news' is either being offered by an entertainment magazine (in exchange for sponsorship), or is being sponsored by somebody.

Worst case scenario: 'Sponsored News, edited by Lorraine Keane'.

    But I pre-judge.

I don't think this is a great point. They are providing a serice, we pay for it by watching it, indirectly.

In association with Lorraine Keane lol.

Why cann't they type up the news reports from there TV3 news serice. I assume they use AutoCues in TV3. Copy and Paste.

I have to say I only look at if for PAGE 180 like the way they do that. Please let that be still there.

I think generally Irish TV is on a downward slope.

I used to like the fact I could get the headlines on both TV3 and RTE. Sometimes TV3 would have a story that RTE didn't and vice versa.

Looking at their new service it's basically a big ad for text messaging services. They were bad enough before but now if you want to get news you sign up for it and pay 60c to get a news alert.

bad move by TV3 .... here's a funny quote from the Broadcasting Commission about TV3 which is presumably the "mission statement" they provided when applying for a license. They can't even tap into a full representation of Ireland in their text service ffs.

I think it's time for TV3 to call it a day.

"TV3's aim is to tap the qualities of community pride, independence, creative talent, humor and determination that are a vital part of Irish society, and, in so doing, to bring to its audience a full representation of life in Ireland and of its interaction with the rest of the world."

Gob****es - Removing a decent news service for 'soapwatch' - talk about dumbing down. The Page 180 is down at present, though they say the TV listings will come back.
