Electric Cooling Box - from Thursday, 29.04. - Republic of Ireland

    http://www.lidl.ie/ie/index.nsf/pages/c.o.oow.20040429.p.Cooling_Box
    €39.99
    # 12V
    # Additional fan inside the cooler ensures quick and constant cooling efficiency
    # An effective maintenance-free Peltier cooling system gurantees optimal performance

Any idea how much cooling this would do ??

My GF suggested taking apart a small fridge before for a cheap alternative for cooling. I would be interested to know if anyone has put this idea into use.

This is the closest I've seen, but it's the other way around! :)

Read that link to Lidl again. Didn;t realise it was a peltier cooler. Interesting. If you had this just inside the case, i.e. not in contact with CPU etc, would it keep the temps inside of the case down enough to remove the need for case fans?

Car lighter connector, so 12v yes? You could try mounting it at the top of the case so cool air drops through the case... Wonder what the wattage is...

Save your money it would be far too underpowered to do anything for ya.It might not even have an 80watt pelt in there It would have a hard time keeping a graphics card cool. Why not go and buy a real pelt and use that.

You could put the whole PC in a fridge and have the cables for drives and I/O coming out from seals .

Or perhaps you could cool the air before it goes in to the PC .

Yeah, but I'd rather not have a Hotpoint special in my bedroom.

I knew I saw a mod somewhere where they used bits from a mini fridge. Take a look at the links below where a guy was O/Cing a 9800Pro and used the cooling system from a fridge. It's extremely clunky looking, but I think he just wanted to push the limits on the card.

    Getting the bits together:

    Installing it:

    Results (very cold, with condensation)

Bought this today and I must say, the peltier is very cold, it has 2 huge heatsinks aswell. Does anyone know if this is possible to connect to the system power or should I power it off its own cable ??

Also whats the best way of distributing the cold air ?? and where should I put it in the case ??

    Thanks

    From the pictures:

Looks like 12V 4A 45W on the label
The peliter is about 2 1/4" square

IIRC +12V is the yellow conector on standard hard drive power cable (black being 0volts)
