Radeon 9600Pro problem (semi-urgent)

Basically, i'm building a new computer, and ordered parts from 2 different companies. Half my order has arrived now, and the graphics card was with that half.

So i decided to throw it into this box, and christen the card now. But, for some strange reason, the card keeps dying. I'd leave my computer on, and come backk a few hours later to be confronted by an error message saying windows has recovered from a critical hardware failure (or something similar) and i need to reboot to restore full functionality.

Also, i'm left with 640x480 resolution, 60hz refresh, and 4bit colours til i reboot. Is the card dodgy? Or what is causing this problem.

Could it be that my case is too hot?

Need more info. What graphics card did you replace. Was it an nVidea card? If it was did you use detonator sestroyer? Did you completely remove the previous drivers and install the new ones?

It was an nVidia Geforce3 Ti200. I used detenator destroyer, then removed the card, and inserted this one. Then, when i turned the computer on, i downloaded the latest ATI drivers, and installed those.

This card is an 8x AGP one, and my mobo supports 8X AGP. so thats not the problem.

Also, after doing a bit of googling, i came across a similar problem that happened with 9800's, pretty uch the same thing happened to them as is happening to me(EDIT: and the problem was due to overheating). So is there any tool that will tell me the tempreture of my graphics card?

Or is it something else completely?

i had simular problems with my 9800 pro
it was overheating i have put a dual fan over the agp slot that stopped the crashing
but im getting this to put on it soon http://www.hitide.ie/catalog/images/ArcticCooling/vga_silencer.jpg

I;ve heard that things like that are dust collectors.

Before i was told that getting a standard fan, and then blowing that over my harddrive was just as good as one of those clamp-on things, and also had the advantage of not collecting dust.

thats a graphics card cooler not a hard drive cooler
but back to your problem is your case well ventilated? the card may be overheating if it isnt

i know thats a graphics card cooler and not a HD cooler, but i would have assumed the same dust collecting principles would have applied.

At the moment i'm on the lookout for a program to monitor the temp of my GFX card, but i don't think they have that capability.

I bought another low rpm fan off a friend, and i stuck that right over the gfx card, on my case lid; and since then, i have yet to get a restart of the graphics card. So it looks like it was heat related.

Also, it seems to freeze after about 20 seconds of playing Call of Duty. Anyone know what causes this? Bad drivers? or is it a call of duty problem?

Nope, i still have the problems.

Anything else i can try? What driver versions are recommended?

EDIT: Under full load, my CPU temp reaches 42Celcius, and my case temp is about the same. Is this too high?
