XP loggin Problem??

    Hey sorry if this is the wrong place

    My gf s mother has a laptop with win XP home edition on it!
    Now she has the password on, yester moring she went to log on and it wouldnt except her password now if tried caps and all that!!
    Is there anyway past this loggin so i can get in and sort it out??
    Would reset the defaults in the Boot menu(F2) work??

    Also my gf says she was on it and anti virsus something popped up( as she so adquetly descided it) could this have been the cause of this???

    Any advice would be great!!!

    u can try logging in to safe mode, which will log you in as administrator. Not sure where to go to change the password of another account tho. XP home is sh*te for that type of thing.

    You can't login to administrator at all unless in safe mode, there might be programs out there specifically for getting in (google), otherwise, get into safe mode, (f8 just before windows starts loading), backup, and format/reinstall.

    Here's an idea. Boot up in Safe Mode. To do this, press F8 after the BIOS screen appears. Choose Safe Mode from the following choices. You should then be able to log in as 'administrator' without a password. You'll probably have to give her a new user account and delete her old one as you won't be able to change her password on the old account. Hope this helps. Let me know if you get it sorted.

    God thanks lads just one more question if i get in and give her a new account will she still have access to her old files, just that thats what she s most concerned about!!

    As administrator, you can change her password.

    Also, the documents/files are all still there. You can copy them around (again as Administrator)
