Brilliant show. Hot totty, milfs, expensive things, humour, and angsty drama. Some good music on it too.

Who is with me? I know there's lots of you out there!

And re: someone suggesting the creator of that rubbish show Popular makes The OC - no. The creator of Popular is now responsible for Nip/Tuck (also great).

Yeh, i think its a nice piece of trash :)

Its not exactly highbrow and the lead young fella and girl need to learn that acting != pouting but its grand for 6:30 on a sunday.

McG is the man behind it. (Charlies Angels 1 & 2 and numerous pop videos and commercials)

I have seen all 25 episodes. It is very 90210 like except there are more adult stories. It is definitely low brow but is well watchable,

    Fluff, but watchable fluff ;)

I love The O.C. Seth Cohen is my imaginary boyfriend. As stated, it's got an enjoyable mix of angsty drama and humour. It's helped by the fact the acting is made more decent by the fact the cast seem to get on very well together, so there's some fun chemistry. Sure it's not a classic but it's great craic to watch.

its the kind of show that people who read the star watch so they can escape their dreary lives and look at some nice things they will never get, never mind that the program is total sheit.

Hold on Ferdi - are you saying television contains an element of escapism? My God! What an amazing, insightful revelation you've had.

So Ferdi, how about you qualify your incredibly illuminating statement by explaining why you think the show is "total sheit". Point out specifics, if you can and compare it with another show that you think is good in the same market. Bear in mind, of course, the genre of the show (e.g. it'd be irksome if you tried to place it against "The Sopranos" - they're not competing for the same audience). Also I'd be interested in hearing how much of the show you've watched, to be able to write the stunning critique that you just did.

Also, while you're at it, why not retract your sweeping generalisation about its viewers? How do you possibly draw a line connecting "The Star" to "The O.C."? Anybody I know, including my good self, who watches the show would not be found reading "The Star". I'm sure there are viewers who read "The Star" as well, as I'm sure there are readers of said paper who interact with you.

I'm looking forward to hearing a sensible reply from you, before I ponder what bridge you wandered out from under.

Given other posts he's made I suspect he's watched less than a full episode altogether, and made a snap judgement that the show is crap - you know, disliking a popular american drama makes him look sophiscated and refined, it really does. As does automatically disregarding someone as non-human if they are blonde and famous :)

25? I thought I've seen all episodes and I certainly didn't see 25. The first episode I seen was the lead actor (forget his name) getting thrown out of his house and his solicitor takes him in, was this not the first episode?

    Anyway, great show.:)

Hey be careful reading this thread - I imagine most of us here are watching the show on TG4 which is at Episode 17 - you've just seen Episode 7...

Oh and there's twenty seven episodes in total - not twenty five. The final two haven't aired in the US yet.

I have to admit, I really did not want to get into the OC at all, but after a few episodes, I was really hooked. It is certainly not high-brow, and is fairly predicatable througout, but I love it!

What's everyones favourite ep. so far?

    Mine: The Countdown

With Ryan rushing to meet Marissa at the new years bash before midnight in superrrrrrr sloooooow motion.

    Class!

And in general, Seth & Sandy' banter is pretty funny.

Is it just me or does this show start to weaken after Chrismukkah?

I really enjoyed everything up to Tijuana, and the few that followed, and while the storyline that followed generally panned, I got a bit of a kick out of Oliver stuff...

But after that, it's been downhill all the way from 18 to 25, with no decent plots to speak of AT ALL! I think the show's extention from 22 to 27 episodes did it no favours.

Fox were delighted with its early promise, so they commissioned a further 20 after the Tijuana episode. Those first seven aired in August, before the show returned in October 2003. Forcing the producers to do a full season after that may have been overkill.

There is one potential plot that make work in the final weeks, but overall, I think The OC started well, dipped in the middle and is still falling as it approaches the end. (But maybe they'll cliffhang and end it well... there's still time.)

great show. its such a relief to have a complete tit as one of the central characters.

seth: 'i lovvveee magic the gathering.'

i like the way it completely disengages my brain and puts me in a jellow like state. its only a few steps away from days of our lives style storylines... (taking pills, escaping from hospital, really rich people argueing... yadda yadda)

dont have a fav episode. they're all equal masterpieces of brain-numbing prime time dawsons crap replacing goodness.

    Word doh.ie
The show has slid in quality since around the Christmas
    one.
I got a bit of a kick out of Oliver stuff...

I definitely don't agree about Oliver though, he's such a waste of space, and I think he's highlighed Marissa's overall crapnicity by association.

It's not quite time to stop watching, but it's definitely a lot less fun that it was when it started. Oh, and people, the Seth-love needs to be reined in, it's embarassing ;)

Man, episode 26 is ****in great :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,416 ✭✭✭doh.ie

Agree, ep26 was pretty decent. (Would want to have been, though, cos ep25 "The Shower" was one of the weakest yet.)

TCamen - glad someone agrees. I remember picking up this show from the start back last August and thinking the first 7 were great (to Tijuana), but I think the producers got over-confident after that, and the more Ryan settled in the less "edge" it seemed to have.

But if you compare all the storylines since then, I still think only the Oliver one stands out as being half-decent. Granted, it revealed what a clueless dope Marissa is, but there was evidence of that all along.

If drama thrives on conflict, the last time there was some (decently) was when Oliver
was in it. I don't think anything with Caleb, or Teresa or Eddie has contributed much more recently than that.

Producers say that plan to end on an "emotional cliffhanger", so while that probably won't mean it'll end with a bang, it may mean a return to some of the more interesting character-based stuff from the earlier episodes.

Really enjoy it! Its never too serious and Seth is my fricking hero but why did'nt he pick Summer? And does anyone know the song at the end of 'The Countdown' I think its being used in an ad thats out now.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,255 ✭✭✭TCamen

    "Selling Submarines" by The Pattern
"Make Up Your Mind" by The Vacation
    "Walking On Moonlight" by Brookeville
"We're Had Enough" by Akaline Trio
"Destiny" by Zero 7 Photec remix
    "Walkaway" by Dropkick Murphy's
    "Ratso Rizzio" by Laptop
    "Just a Ride" by Jem
    "Overdriver" by Singapore Sling
"Did You Ever Get A Feeling Of Dread?" By Suicide Machines
    "Flowers" by The Flaming Sideburns
"Dice" by Finley Quaye & Beth Orton

I'm not sure which song was @ the end but there all the ones from the episode. Most episode guides will tell you the featured music, it's very handy for series that feature a lot of contemporary music i.e WB stuff & shows like 'The O.C' (yes I know it's on FOX) :)

I watched the first 16 episodes and then gave up with that crap about Psycho Boy. It was irratating and supid - and no way believeable.
    Wont watch it again.
