I was reading today in PCFormat that Phillips have now launched a 16x Dual Layer DVD burner.

    List price is £149

Time to sell the old single layer burners me thinks.

Holy Jebus Mr. Melody - if that story checks out then that blows to pieces everything currently on the market.

    Dual Layer AND 16X, Jebus...

Ah, they have 2 new drives.

    One is 16X single layer.

    The other 8X / 2.4X single/dual layer.

    Still bloody good drives though.

Good news.... but.... is the media out as well? Blankdiscshop have a lot of 4.4gb discs for sale at a good price until dl is out in the same quantity and quality, then everyone will buy one.

dual layer discs will cost up to 10eur a pop i've heard. And at 2.4x it'll take an hour per disc to burn.

You'd be better off getting the 16x single layer, and when that breaks down, then get a dual layer, when its faster and write quality is good.

    10eur a pop.

That makes it as expensive you back up your DVDs from your own legit collection as to buy second copies....(ahem)
