    Google for Casablanca Satatonce etc.

I have Casablanca and it is free. It works well.

    1) You "request" a file by post to the SatatOnce newsgroup (using dialup)
    2) Someone on the newsgroup with broadband then posts the binary as a reply
    3) The SatAtOnce newsgroup is always one of the Newsgroups avialable for Casablanca along with the "standard" application files ("Multimedia Downloads"), Web pages and email newsletters.

You have TWO servers setup on your newsreader program, one is your normal ISP, and used to post. The other is 127.0.0.1 (Your Own PC) which is "Lucy" the on-your-PC newserver installed automatically as part of Casablanca.

PLEASE register if you download Casablanca, as the number of registrations rising is what makes Astra-SES and others fund it. Unlike EON and Internet By Satellite, Casablanca is a unique "broadcast only" service. The more users, there is *NO* slowdown (as it is like people viewing BBC interactive or Teletext), but they can add more content and bandwidth.

The Data Tuner caches all the download on your disk (2Gbyte is a good space to allow). The total "carosel" of broadcast data is over 20Gbyte now and updates every few hours. "Download speed" is over 2Mbit last I looked. Casablanca includes a "smart proxy" to browse the content and optionally turn on/off connection to your normal Internet.

Due to rise in registrations thaey have been able to make Italian and German as separate streams that you can now ignore.

They are offereing a "surprise" on May1st.

    byte

I had Casablanca for a while but all it seemed to download was foreign websites. So removed it again.

Perhaps it was a bad move! :dunno:

You don't use a TV application. Exit the TV application. You need a Data Application and IP address for your Satellite card on a different subnet to any other network card (I use 192.168.1.1 and mask = 255.255.255.0 as my LAN is 192.168.0.xxx)

Do the parameters in the Data Receive application according to the Casablanca instructions.

Then install Casablanca using the IP address of the Satellite card. (you are networking one way via satellite, so this makes perfect sense).

You need to select the correct streams (not Italian or German) and tick the boxes of the "Favorites" and "Vote"

Then after a while clear the cache and vote again. Casablanca will then give you mostly English sites and all the Newsgroups Websites and Email lists you ticked on the Favorites / Voting page.

To vote ensure you change the Casablanca "Browse missed links" and open your Internet browser and go to an online site not in Casablanca. Then open Vote/Favorites and it will accept votes.

At the last I looked I had got the WHOLE of lyngsat, and a fair amount of CIA fact book, CNN, news.com and Scientific American and also Dilbert among others.

It's one of the things that comes with your card.

Try www.technotrend.de and download the drivers for the "basic card" The "premium" or "highend" software would be for Skystar1.

Skystar2 is probabily made by technotrend, and is probabily same thing as Hauppauge Nova-s.

My Hauppauge Win TV DVB-s PCI card is an earlier version of the Nexus-s and works fine with technotrend "hiend"/premium drivers.

There are lot's of file grabbing utils for the Skystar and also dbox. You can latch onto other peoples downloads. Most of the stuff is porn but you may also find films and music and lots of crazy ****. A lot of Sat internet providers don't encrypt the packets.
