Cooldrive 4 Scares...

    Hiya's,

I recently got a Coolermaster Cooldrive4 unit to control the fans in my rig and have temp sensors. About 6 times now it has basically frozen up. The LCD goes blank, the buttons don't respond, and worst of all, the fans it controls stop!

Needless to say, this is extremely worrying (now have the CPU fan plugged into the mobo, glad it's a big Zalman).
I have been recording the PSU rails just in case there was some sort of surge, but the be-quiet is like a rock, no problems there. The PSU and the fans are the only things it's plugged into, so overclocking etc cannot possibly affect it. (But just in case  I have gone back to stock on everything.)

Got it from Komplett, so am thinking it's return time... :(

I can't find any similar issues on the web, but was wondering if anyone had a similar experience here.

Guess I'm the only one in the country with one of these.. :p

    It's going back...

Definately send it back The last thing you want is for it to freeze up and stop all your fans :p

Also, whats the point in it? Whats wrong with just sticking the fans into the mobo and leaving them there?

I think the sensors which control the fan, i.e. turning them on to whatever speed depending on the heat in the machine, would create less noise than all fans blowing at full all at once....that, and the snazzy LCD ;)

    Yeah, what he said! ;)

Actually, it doesn't automate the fans unless there's an overheat beyond a preset temp AFAIK. I was going to go for just a rheostat fanbus type thing, but I have found the temp sensors (4 of them) really useful when overclocking things like the graphics card (9800Pro doesn't have one built in). I've taken it out, and now the rig is pretty loud, relatively speaking.

And yeah, it looks nice :)

    Edit:
Forgot to mention, the Zalman (as you probably know) has the fanmate with it, and the Sharkoon fans come with rheostats that take a slot at the back, but these are a bit of a pain to control the fans as you either have to open the case or reach around the back.

Did I mention it looks nice? :D
