Roofies

A girl who I used to be extremely good friends with recently got spiked with a roofie. Now I'm not sure if it was rohypnol or not, but the symptoms were, nausea, tiredness, drowsiness, and eventually a 16-hour unconscious sleeping period, with memory loss. Now I know that sounds like a good night out to some people, but she had one drink, and remembers clearly someones eyes staring at her all the way to the bus.

Lucky she had the cop to get on the bus, or was it just the lack of cop to get herself in the situation. Anyway, is Dublin safe for 19-22 girls to hang around in? Are roofies really a problem? And here's the real stinger, how many girls dont know/are ashamed of been spiked and/or raped....

    Is this an issue?

No city is completely safe. Don't leave drinks unattended.

I think probably us lads will have to start watching our female friends drinks more closely. If I saw anybody near any drink which didn't belong to them, nowadays i'd report it to the bouncers, or if they were spiking my own friends drinks i'd probably deck them as well. People who go around spiking drinks to get women should be locked up, fair and square. There's absolutely no excuse for doing that at all.

I'd never go back to a drink I'd left unattended. Granted it can work out more expesive but you cannot be too careful.

If I leave a drink down and even if there's someone I know at the table I wont touch that drink again. It's not worth the risk.

Yeah take your drink everywhere, or finish it before you go - I even take mine into the bathroom with me, it's better safe than sorry.

Far too many tossers in this world unfortunately.

A bottle is safer than a pint glass too, particularly if you keep your thumb over the opening when you're not actually drinking from it...although that might be a bit paranoid, but it's effective.

..or you could keep the open end in your mouth continually....or better still you could always ask the bar person to leave the cap on and simply carry the bottle around all night. This avoids the possibility that someone at the brewing company or bottling plant may have slipped something suspect in there....

Don't you think a bigger issue is to encourage young people, male and female, to not go out with the sole aim of getting completely poo face fall over drunk as fast as possible?

I pointed out that it was rather paranoid, but the fact is you could go out and have one pint which happened to be spiked. You don't have to head out with a destination of drunkeness be unlucky with one drink.
