I have a 15gb ipod. I have a usb 2.0 slot in my pc, but no firewire card. There is no ipod dock with it. What i have is the ipod, , a 6pin to 4pin Firewire adaptor, an ipod dock connector to firewire cable, and a power adaptor(plug)
Is there a way of using usb with it? or do i need anything else to make this work?
    Thanks

You have to buy the Firewire to USB2 cable. Try www.compub.com or your local Apple shop

I've seen a friend who had a normal USB 2.0 Ipod cable but that was from the states so you could try online.

Failing that I'd go buy a firewire card either here on boards or from komplett - you never know when it'll come in handy and its very easy to attach.

Thats pretty lame, youd think theyd give you everything you need at least to get it working with it.

In fairness to Apple, they make it fairly clear that you need the USB 2.0 cable if you don't have firewire...

Komplett have the USB2 cable too. Its a dual cable rather than a converter type - has both firewire and usb connections. That way you can plug the firewire end into the ipod charger and the USB end into your computer at the same time. (Ipod can't charge off the USB port, only from firewire)

And in fairness, buying a firewire card is probably cheaper than buying the USB2.0 cable :)

Practically all macs and most new PC's already have firewire anyway. My pc does.

They're even cheap to buy from the usual online shops. The killer is delivery. For such a small item on its own the delivery will probably cost nearly as much as the card cost to begin with.

It will still work but it will be very slow.

Yep, it'll just be painfully slow to transfer music though.

Yep it should. Although Apple say it wont. Creative decided to create their own Firewire Port calling it SB1394 while the standard one is IEEE 1394. Some iPods Have problems with Creative's Firewire port.

It works with my Audigy 1 card so id say you'll have no problem with yours :)

It might not be able to charge through the SB1394 port though.
