I don't know if this is the right place for this but if it isn't I'm sure it'll be moved :)

I was just after some advice on a bit of a predicament i'm in. I'm at college at the min doing an arts degree. I'm in first year. My plan when I had finished this was to go and do an MA.

However, I've been offered a full time job with about 36,000 a year in my eventual chosen profession that I want to do my MA in. The MA at the min is four years off. I have no other qualifications at the min apart from my leaving. Should I take the job which I'd love to do as its what I love or finish my degree and do the MA?

Need advice! What would you do?
Also if I did get the job I'd take a year or 2 out working and go back to college part time if it was possible

36 grand and you havent even finished first year?? Wow

    Financially speaking:

Grab that opportunity as soon as you can!! What's the job and is that a sure 36K or just a maybe?

there are thousands of people out there with arts degrees and MA's struggling to find jobs, if you dont like the job you can always go back to college in a year or two by reapplying, OK you might have to pay first year fees again but that is a minor consideration.

    But OTOH,

College can be great fun, 4 years with loads of free time and sports clubs, money is no good if you dont have time to spend it.

And if you're good enough to be offered 36K, you may do brilliantly well at college and make a name for yourself, and be offered an even better job when you finish.

and if you do get the job, finish your first year exams first, they will stand to you if/when you do go back.

Sorry I should have said. Its in journalism. I've been working part-time for a few years so I've built up a bit of a rep and established a few contacts so I guess thats why I've been offered it. Like to be fair I did work for it

yeah deffo go for it. Journalism seems to one of those careers where practical experience is way more important than academic qualifications. For school leavers who are doing the degree at 17 its supposed to be really hard to break in to.

So you're about 18 and have been working on stuff you were 15. Because of this someone is offering you 36k? What was it an expose on rent boys? Theres graduates and people with masters working on 20k at the moment. Either this is a windup. No one could be THAT good AND then be that stupid. (no offense). But if it is true then you'd be a moron to turn it down.

don't tell us you're 18  i assumed you were older to be offered that money, then wondered why you would be asking advice off some strangers on the interweb

No I'm older than that I took a few years out after the leaving to work. I also do more than just journalism cause I'm trained in photoshop and also do a lot of production work (i.e. putting the news on the page etc) so I suppose the figure represents that too.

Just wanted an outsiders perspective. Anyone I've asked about it that I know has based it on me but none of you know me so you'd give a more honest answer maybe. Anyway cheers for the comments. Appreciate them.

Just out of curiousity. What certifications do you have in Photoshop? I've been using it for about 10 yrs but have never done the certifications. Most people these days just assume everyone can use photoshop, its not really a big skill item. Everyone and his brother uses it.

if its not a troll & you really want education then maybe you can still work part-time of freelance as a journalist until you get a degree, I mean if you're really that good it shouldnt be a problem. Would be a nice way to pay for college

if its a troll - have some people nothing better to do than make up stupid stories?

I assumed anyone who had been on boards for a while and had > 100 posts would have more sense, maybe I was wrong, but maybe not.
