They just quoted me around the same as Hibernian did, except Hibernian were presuming 40% off on successful completion of the Ignition course, and Quinn was just a straight up purchase..

25, Full license for 2 years, 2years named driver, 1,400 TPFT on a BMW 316

They really do seem to be the only option for young male drivers.

I agree. They do seem to be making a healthy contribution to the Irish insurance market.

I forgot to ask them, but does anyone know if their policies as standard allow you to drive other people's cars with their permission?

    A bit more perspective: (!)

    AXA 2,250
    FBD 2,321

At this rate I hope that Quinn quote wasn't a mistake!

It's just that we have become conditioned to think that the prices you quoted from Axa and FBD are normal!

When you say quinn do you mean quinn direct ??

Or is it a different company.

Yes quinn give you DOC as long as you've a full licence. You're covered TP Only to drive other ppls cars as long as it doesnt belong to yourself and you have the owners permission. And again Yes quinn are cheap, but they're cheap for a reason. Their policy has absolutely no extra benefits such no as glass cover, no temporary car replacement service, all claims with them will destroy you're ncd and most claims made they will not pay out 1 way or another. Not to mention they have the highest excess out there at €380 so if you do have an accident you'll be paying the first 380 of the claim wheras with axa or allianz for example you'd be only paying the first €126.

They aren't very professional or nice to deal with either! I might do up a list of all the extra benefits each insurance company offers, what kind of cover is provided, who they will and will not quote since I have access to this information. Would any1 be interested?

Quinn direct wouldn't even quote me today for a BMW 318i 1998 . They said i had to be over 25. I am 22 with 2 years no claims . I was getting quotes of €3000 for a full year by other companies.
I have 2 months left before i have 3 years ncb since quinn wont give me a quote can i cancel my insurance and move my 2 years 10 months ncb to another company or will i loose the 10 months ncb.

You'll lose the 10months ncd, if you ring quinn again you might get quoted on that car. It depends on who you get through to!!!

They offer cheap quotes alright, but while they quoted me €1500 TPFT on an M3 Evo through their site, they wouldn't honour the quote when I rang to double check. They actually wouldn't quote anything above a 323i for me!

They are also a complete nightmare to deal with if you do need to claim, or even worse if you decide to cancel the policy - one guy I work with spent two weeks off the road because they wouldn't quote him on his new car, and when he changed to Hibernian Quinn wouldn't send him out any of his NCB documents!

Have also heard of them really dragging their heals when it comes to refunding money erroneously taken from ex-policy holders accounts.

Strange Quinn where the most expensive for me back in Jan when I rang around. They quoted sometime like 2200 and I got it for 1500 with allienz. Thats male, 25, 1.8T with 7 years NDE.

Quinn gave me a great quote....my first policy in my own name,

I got a massive discount however because I had 7 years continuous named driver experience..

I was well please.. Quinn are good.....Good when you claim off people....bad (i have heard now) if people claim off u!

I think what they do is give you a good quote to get your business.
After that they hope you wont check around because your next years quote will be higher than anywhere else.
This happened to me and i only noticed when i shopped around. Before that i thought that they would automaticly be the cheapest the next year.
Also happened anyone else i know that went with Quinn.

Moral : Always shop around for insurance EVERY year.

    Very good point DaithiSurfer...

When my Insurance is up for renewal I will shop around. I wont make a comment until this time next year when my quote is up for renewal...

    But excellent point.

I've been with Quinn Direct for 3 years, having no need to claim etc etc - they're the cheapest for me (25, prov, 1.2 16v car) I've gone from the first eyar being 2500 on a 1.0 13 year old car TP only to 1050 on a 1.2 16v 18month old car with fully comp.
I've found they're handy more than anything, with the Direct Debit option etc - I just hope I don't have to claim :)

All that said I'm still gonna do some shopping around come renewal time in June.
