i need to do an RMA for a faulty card. the thing is i removed the heatsink from the card to check if there was good thermal contact when i was trying to figure out the problem. one of the HSF retaining pins got a little bit dameged and i need to replace them before i can send them back.

has anyone got some they could spare? i'll cover postage, and the price of a pint maybe :)

Tyan make motherboards and stuff. Or at least they used to, dunno if they still do.

Its a 9600 Pro. Here's a review of it. Its an excellent card. Has onboard temp monitoring and fan control. the heat sink extends around the back so its almost passivley cooled. very quiet and looks great in my shuttle with blue cathodes.

i'm not even sure if it is faulty since it seems to work in a friends computer but i've tried everything with it in mine so will prob rma it for a replacement.

Hopefully they'll still RMA it after you deliberately dismantling the cooling. Make sure you put it back together faultlessly.

I have lots of pins, but none with white plastic hexagonal heads.
I suppose it's the head that got damaged? Any chance you could fabricate one from an identical piece of plastic?

Are you sure your motherboard isn't faulty? A friend had a motherboard whose AGP slot was faulty. Sometimes it'd work, sometimes it wouldn't. Had to be RMA'd.

pretty sure it ain't the mobo since i had a ti4200 in it that worked perfectly. could just be a 9600pro conflict but very hard to tell.

If the card works in a friends machine and doesn't in yours you just answered your own question about the card being faulty (more than likely is not) and there being some conflict with your system as you had another card in there previously and clearly haven't reformatted.

no no. the problem has been around since i bought the system and installed the card (there had never been any other card in the shuttle before it). then i reformatted. tried again. then used a ti4200. worked fine. uninstalled the ti4200 and used drive cleaner to make sure everything had been removed. put the 9600 back in and installed the drivers. same deal. tbh the card hasn't been tested long enough in a friend's computer to show up the problem.
