DVD Re-encoding software

I have a couple of family DVD's from events like births of kids, birthdays etc, and at the moment i have them on several DVD+RW's, each dvd+rw is only about 1/3 full. I want to compress them a bit further, and squeeze a bit more onto one DVD+R

I know programs exist that can transcode DVD's in under an hour, but i remain dubious about their quality. I'm looking for a program that can take these existing DVD's and re-encode them (while keeping chapter points, and menu's etc) easily enough.

I don't mind if it takes 30 mins to set up the software, so long as afterwards the quality is better than the transcoders. And encoding time isn't really an issue, unless it takes on average 10+ hours per DVD.

tmpgenc and nero vision express are the only 2 ive used a few times myself, but they will easilly do what u want with minimum fuss, tmpgenc isnt as flash as nero vision express menu wise but the video quality is far superior, if the project is too big for a dvd just run it through dvd shriink before burning it,

Instant CD/DVD recompresses DVDs nicely (on the fly), but it can be a bit flaky.
