ok so i have been out of work a while and claiming the dole. finally i got myself the job i wanted. it pays 23,000 euro a year. the only snag is i have to work a month in arrears.

seeing as my only income (untill my first months paycheque arrives) is the dole....but as soon as i start, that gets cut off.....how the hell am i supposed to get the bus to work, let alone afford to live for that one month?

does anyone reckon i have much of a chance when i plead me case to the social tomorrow or will i just get told to sod off.

(citizens advice bureau told me to ask my bank for an overdraft .....fat bloody chance)

i doubt you will get anything off social welfare but you can ask the health board for an emergency needs payment (i.e. loan) , it helps if you sound desparate.

can you borrow money off the credit union/your friends/your landlord/the bank for 6 weeks, if not you'll have to live on noodles :(

and any decent employer should give you an advance after 2 or 3 weeks.

You'd be surprised, the bank will probably give you an overdraft if you can show them a letter from your new employer stating that you work there. It's not like the old days, the banks throw around cash these days.... feckers keep raising my credit card limit to tempt me to spend more...

i was in the same situation back in september when i started my current job....

i asked the bank for an overdraft... all they needed was proof from my employer that i have the job etc and how much you earn.. they should give it to you no probs.. if they dont tell them you'll leave the bank and go to a rival...

they prob will give it to you as they know now that they can make a bit of money off you now that you are earning and i presume your wages will be paid by paypath into your account...

luckily just after i applied for the overdraft i got an insurance claim at the same time from my house being robbed... :p
