Ive read the book a few times and its one of my all time favorites. Ive read a few reviews of the film version and they haven't been good. Apparently the film has been dumbed down far to much.

Same here, I read the book and thought it was great but I've also read too many bad reviews abou the film so I haven't bothered trying to see it.

finished the book a few days ago and really enjoyed it. good plot and all that. a few friends of mine who have read the book have also seen the film and they say it's terrible. really dumbed down. bad acting, direction. huge chunks of the story left out. i still want to see it though...

The book presents you with a very detailed description of a medieval building in the intro that hints at a lot of research being put into the project. Then the story competely ignores this and goes off on a typical crichton romp. Enjoyed it all the same right up to the crappy ending.

Avoided the film like the plague (I always find books better than films - when the book is written first). Might get the film out on rental just to compare the two but seriously doubt it'll get a thumbs aloft from me.
