2 Quick questions?

Hi my PC isnt working the best so I cant trawl through the pages for the answers to my questions.

A: I recently bought a second hand digibox, and wanted to reset it to the english epg, I did this before with the other digibox with the card upside down trick and it worked, resetting itself when i put the irish card back in. However the digibox i have now wont reset to the english epg. Has anyone else tried this, or has the new software stopped this from working. I unplug the box holding back-up with the card upside down.

B: Can I get a mirror subscription with the second box?

I'd also like to say that if I offended anyone with my comments on here and my (out of character) rudeness the last time I posted, I'd like to say Sorry. It was a difficult period in my life.

A: Yeah, new software seems to have put the hex on that. Easiest (possibly only) method is to get someone to stick their FTV or UK (current or expired) sub card in the box, reboot and remove the card - you'll get the UK EPG then permanently until you put in an Irish card. I've also noticed this now kills all my reminders but that's by the by.

B: No problem doing this if you have a phoneline in your house and can connect it to both boxes and keep it connected. Obviously, assuming your main sub is an Irish one, you'll lose what you've gained by getting the UK EPG when you do. Just phone Sky and say you want to take out a mirror sub on your second box. If you don't have a phone line you're prepared to connect to both boxes for the duration of the sub you'd have to pay full whack on your secnod sub.

    Thanks sceptre.

However I dont have the main box hooked up to the phone line, the installer never asked about the phoneline. I know im only missing out on the interactive services. Is this right?

It would be possible to get a link to the second box from the PC here, but I would still only have one box connected. Is it essential for the boxes to be connected, and is it possible for sky to check that the box is connected to the phone line.

Bad news with the new software doing away with the hack. The only reason really for getting the second box was to do this hack. But I might go ahead and get the mirror sub now. Do you know the price for a mirror sub, I think I heard about EUR12 a few years back.

Mirror Sub= €20 or if you subscribe to Sky+ €15, per month regardless of what pack your main sub is on.

It is only in the last eighteen months or so that Sky stipulated that all new connections must be connected to a line, if you were taking the free digibox and reduced cost installation offer.Earlier installations were not subject to this.

However if you intend to take a mirror out, both boxes will need to be connected all the time, and they do regular checks to ensure you are using both cards at the same address.

They send out regular random signals to the boxes over air, telling the internal modem to phone home, and if you miss I think its more than two callbacks, then they may charge you full whack for the mirror sub.

Thanks Mickey, I didnt know this.

So the box in the sitting room that isnt hooked to the phone, they obviously know that this isnt hooked to the phone. This is more than 2 years like that.

Well guess it's back to the FTA channels for now.

Connecting the box to the phoneline doesn't require any expertiese, it is exactly the same as connecting a second phone to the socket.

Yeah but it might just be a bit awkward getting the line to the box, I dont want the phone cable running along the floor. A second sub isnt exactly what I got the box for. So I wont be missing out, having a subscription already.
