Nice one dub. I've stayed away from most of the UTV threads here, simply because I have not experienced the level of disruption you and others have reported. Apart from the Easter difficulties, I have had consistently good service from UTV, and it's good to hear that it's improved for you as well.

My experience would suggest that you are not tempting fate by starting a complimentary thread. I expect the service will maintain the high standard that I am accustomed to.

I sincerely hope so UTV have a lot of ground to make up in restoring their reputation as far as I am concerned and I am sure a lot of others. Bear in mind that as recently as last Wednesday one user in the support group was describing it as the worst night ever on Clicksilver so it is early days yet......

Pings for me are still around 60ms to boards.ie but have improved to around 45ms to jolt.co.uk, which is good.

I can never get it that good , never could either , my first hop is in the 45ish range , just wondering what your setup is ?

Also I never had a problem with d/l speeds ( counting out the obvious times ) , mine are always in the 51/52 KB/s , always . Anyone able to say why my pings and d/l speeds differ in quality , or is that just the way it is with radsl ?

    John.

Download speed is still up |& down for me but maxes at 370/380kbps.

I've had serious packet loss issues now for weeks & have heaps of corrupted (i.e. useless) downloaded files :(

Just ran those ping tests now & had only 1 result without packet loss from 8 runs.

Fair dues to the UTV crew.

The service has improved beyond all recognition in the past few days. D/L speeds, Pings etc. all as good as one could expect.

Hopefully it will stay good and recover any lost ground re. reputation.

All the moaning and ranting was worth it....

Thanks a lot Martin, Malcom et al.

Hardly worth mentioning.. but quite an improvement here too.. I wonder if it'll last until Monday morning, or maybe even... *gasp* Tuesday!?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 430 ✭✭Aepos

    Oops,

here we go again d/l speeds way way down again (4:00pm) below 200 on giganews and ADSL Guide. Pings to Jolt & UTV are OK but Boards around 60-70ms.

    Hows things elsewhere?

Speed is still ok for me over 400ish on giganews.

Interesting info re. bad D/L speeds, My router logged a disconnection lunchtime today and the speeds were V poor after that.

I did a reboot of the router ( Netgear 834G ) just now and the problems have gone away...

    Downstream 427 Kbps (53.4 KB/sec) 461 Kbps (inc. overheads)
    Upstream 104 Kbps (13.0 KB/sec) 112 Kbps (inc. overheads)

So I dont know what to make of all that however things are good again...

    Cheers

Maybe this is not the right place for this question and if not I apologise.

I have just signed on for Clicksilver (on Good Friday) and am waiting while my line is checked out.

Can you guys tell me a bit about the modem provided. My machine only has USB 1.1 and I would like to know if this will be sufficient ?

I have just signed on for Clicksilver (on Good Friday) and am waiting while my line is checked out.

Can you guys tell me a bit about the modem provided. My machine only has USB 1.1 and I would like to know if this will be sufficient ?

It looks like the modem that UTV supply is only USB1.1 anyways. I have not seen any reporting any problems with it so far so you should be fine. More here.

not sure if this was mentioned before but i just noticed that on the All Seeing Eye there is a UTVi gaming server for Counterstrike. It pings bad for me on eircom (60-120ms) shud be more like 30ms, anyway perhaps it would give very good pings to UTV Clicksilver users, the address is 194.46.26.150:28015

USB 1.1 offers 12mbps throughput, which is over 20 times faster than the 512K DSL offerings, so you won't have any problems on that score.

I just recieved my modem and began setting it up. Everything was going fine until I got to the bit where it says ;-
Enter the Clicksilver User name and Password that have been provided to you by Clicksilver

I don't seem to have recieved one. Where should it be ?

You should have gotten it by email if you upgraded from some other UTV product. I dunno how else they distribute them - check and see if there's a page in the box with the modem with it, failing that, ring the helpdesk.
The username takes the form csxxxxxx@adsl.utvinternet.com (i think), where the X's are numbers.
    the password is randomly generated.

UTV only supply a USB modem by default. A number of people have posted that they will supply an ethernet modem instead for an additional fee of €30 or €50.

I finally got my Clicksilver broadband working his afternoon and already I have almost 300 Mb downloaded according to my Bandwidth Monitor.

I had to reinstall windows on another partition as I have VPN software installed to access the network where I have been contracting for the last year and updating windows and my anti-virus software caused a large download and its worring me.

If I start using my Clicksilver boadband today, is the 8 Gb cap to the end of the month or to this time next month ?

I have not yet heard of anyone exceeding the cap being charged and UTV stated in the newsgroup a while ago that they will contact people who are nearing the cap to give them a warning.

432 kbit/sec on giganews just now, speed looks good today.

If i'd known you could get an ethernet modem with utv, i would have asked for it , is it too late to upgrade to it now that i have clicksilver almost a month?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,659 ✭✭✭PowerHouseDan

If you have outlook express (look under tools and then accounts) add news.utvinternet.com as a newserver and then it will download the various newsgroups which are on the server - utv.support is the one you are looking for.
