Looking for software for photo/picture compression

I'm looking for software that can compress pictures/photos without giving much degrading of quality. Looked around for simple click and compress software, but havn't found anything worthwhile. Thanks

you might try the jpeg2000 format, it uses wavelet based compression.

GIMP can do that. Just save as JPEG (lossy) or TIFF (lossless) for example.
Make sure you change the default settings so that you get an acceptable quality.
