The Irish Times reports that Eircom deputy chairman Con Scanlon is to step down as general secretary of the Communications Workers' Union (CWU). The union, which did not give a reason for Scanlon's departure, said in a statement that he had decided to resign in three months.

The CWU will contribute generously into Cons pension fund and will also give him the S-Class Merc that they normally priovide for his use . Seeing as Con hardly ever leaves Dublin on business I wonder why he needs such a large car ?
