I recently purchased a Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 200GB 8MB cache hard drive from Komplett.ie now I made sure it was not an SATA hard drive as my pc doesn't support it but when it arrived all the documentation with it said SATA and the bill was less than it should have been. I rechecked the web page and I couldn't find an SATA for the price i was charged. I assumed maybe the paperwork was wrong I installed it and it worked but it is only showing 131 gb on startup. My question is it cant be SATA so where the hell is my 70 gb my pc is a hewlett packard vectra vl400 with 384 mb ram and 933 mhz intel processor. thanks in advance everyone.

    What's your OS?

Does your system's BIOS support LBA 48 drives? If not, you'll need an IDE controller card to allow you to access the full 200 GB.

I'd start with the Hewlett Packard site, see if they have any support info for your system. If you know the mobo manufacturer try their site.

Or you could just post the details here, some kind soulmay be able to tell you.

My guess (and thats all it is) is that its not LBA 48 compliant. The machine a few years old?

Then I'm fairly certain you'll need the IDE controller card. Something like this should do the trick (you'll need a spare PCI slot) http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=111199&cks=PRL

Like I said, try the PC or mobo maufacturers websites for support.

okay dude, i know exactly what the problem is. i had a huge problem with this myself not too long ago. check out this:

    http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=136328

basically, your os need to support 48 bit lba. for xp you need to install sp1. if your copy of xp is not legit you will have a bit of extra work to do!

edit: although im not using boards all that much at the mo, you can pm me for more details if you want. i just realised how much crud is in the thread i linked!
