I've finally been given the go-ahead to upgrade our IOL Anytime to IOL Broadband, under the condition that I can get rid of all the phone extension cables running all over the house. What's happening right now is that we have the main telephone point in the downstairs hall, with a double adapter and extension cable running into the study, just off the hall. And then another telephone point upstairs with another extension cable running from one bedroom to another. So basically lots of messy cables everywhere. So I'm looking for some kind of wireless solution, preferably one that doesnt need to be connected to a computer? Ie that i can connect to the main telephone point, and have the 2 other comps connect to it wirelessly. Possible, or just totally lunacy? The upstairs comp is the main one, if that makes any difference, running Windows XP. Downstairs (secondary comp) runs Windows 98SE and is a total POS (Packard Bell are the most evil computer manufacturers EVER, so it's not *absolutely vital* that it's connected. I'm also in the process of building my own comp, so in the end connecting all 3 would be the ideal situation. Also, I cant stretch beyong €150.....

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. I'm totally clueless when it comes to networking.

not too sure if it'll fit in with your budget, but you could take a look at the offerings from the likes of Netgear, D-Link and Linksys. They all have wireless options for DSL use. I have a netgear dsl modem & wireless router (two seperate units, but they have an all-in-one unit available). My setup (including WiFi card for my laptop) came to around €270 I think, might have been a bit more or a bit less.

Take a look at www.dsl-warehouse.ie, there might be something on there that'll be easier on the pocket.

Thanks rymus, so what exactly is it that I need to get started? I was thinking the 802.11g thingy sounded good, but whats the difference between a router/access point? I've tried googling it, but havent found anything totally 100% clear

Like, would this be everything I'd need (with just one more PCI card?)? Would that have to be connected to a comp all the time? And yes, I realise how annoying and stupid most of these questions sound.
