Sky+ With 80 Hours Recording Time

I notice on Ebay this week , they are selling a number of Sky+ boxes with upgraded hard drives capable of recording either 60 or 80 hours.

Is it possible to upgrade the hard drive in a normal Sky+ box to achieve this, and if so how would I go about doing this?

Can the drive be bought here, and if so how much would it cost, would it void the warranty if I opened the box and tried to install the bigger drive?

I've installed a 120Gb drive (if you put a bigger disc than this in it won't give you any more recording time). Everything worked fine up until SKY upgraded the software to allow dual recording then I got the 17 minute bug a few times. For details check out the PVR forum over on www.digitalspy.co.uk.

I've left the disc in and haven't had too many problems with the 17 minute bug. I don't think SKY would be in any great hurry to correct it as it only seems to affect upgraded boxes. A lot of people have but there old discs back in or are not upgrading in the first place.

Upgrading probably would invalidate your warranty but if you were careful it might be undetectable i.e but the original disc back in.

Thanks, I was not clear, I have heard of this bug but thought it was related to the software upgrade that allowed dual recording, not in relation to the memory upgrade..........think I will leave well enough alone!

So, is it correct to assume these boxes being offered have been modified by the seller and inflated in price to £400 sterling, they are not being supplied offically for retail sale ?

Here's the link to the (very long!) 17min bug thread http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=101131&page=1&pp=25

I would say their definitely unoffical boxes. There is a rumour that SKY will be offering a bigger capacity box at some point in the future though.
