    OK hears the plan.
I am going to Chicargo in september and im gonna work like a bitch all summer. I wanna buy a fender strat out there. A good clean tone is the main thing im looking for but versitility is always handy. Would a Tele be better for a clean tone? Ive been looking at a Mexican Deluxe Super Strat on music123.com for $600. Is there a big gap in performance between Mexican and US strats?
    Thanks

Not really. As in, if yo
u play a Mexican one day, and an American the next you wont really be able to tell the difference. But if you play them one straight after the other you'll be able to tell. Tele's are very bright. Strat is a more versatile guitar tone wise. I think anyway.

I have both an original and mexican strat. Both under a year old. The mexican strat has small frets, very hard to play accurately high up the neck. The original of course has medium jumbo frets. The mexican for me also gets alot of feedback from the amp no matter what pickup its on, the original is just noiseless. I've heard also the colour on the mexican strats fade over the years.

You got to ask yourself one question, should I get a guitar which will keep its value forever or get a Mexican imitation which most tom dicks and harrys have.

If the original is too expensive for you, you should have a look at some of the highway strats ( very noisy pickups though). Price is half way between an original and a mexican.

Buy an American Standard model 2nd hand for about $500 instead. It'll do a really sweet clean tone and get dirty when you need it. Some nice innovations compared to the Mex model too.

True. Always buy second hand guitars. You'll get much better for whatever money you've got. Cause most guitars get better with age anyway. Mostly.
