Optical Mice

    Basically, whats good, whats not.

For gaming i heard that wireless mice have noticeable lag, so they aren't really recommended. But i presume there's no such nasty side effects if i use a wired optical mouse?

And what would be a good price for an optical mouse?

Which would be better, USB or normal (is that PS2?).

Yep, I'll never go back from an optical mouse. There's no real difference between using PS/2 and USB, other than keeping a USB port free if you go PS/2.

The Microsoft or Logitech mice are all pretty good. I think for the most part it's down to personal preference of style and feel. I know I won't buy the new Intellmouse with the tilt wheel again as it's crap fpr games, but then it;s really good for doc editing. The Logitec MX series sound really good.

thanks for the help. I finally got extremely pissed off at my mouse today, when i was doing some graphics editing and the f'in thing kept sticking! It took me over 15 mins to do what should have taken about 2. I'm getting me one of them optical mice... so long as it doesn't affect my gaming experience :p

its a matter of preference, iv used both and they are both very accurate great for games

believe me once you game with one of these you will never go back to a regular mouse

in what way is the exp 3 better than the exp 4?

it fits the hand better plus the two side buttons on the exp4 are too out of the way where as on the exp 3 your thumb naturally rests where the buttons are.

Microsoft wireless optical desktop elite - great keyboard and wireless mouse, no lag, and really cuts down on the cables. Ive had mine for 4 months now, use it about 4 hours a day and havent had to replace any batteries yet. Its on the expensive side, but it's definetly worth it.

Optical mice are so much better than those with balls. never have to clean the gunk from it again, and it's a smooth as anything.

I did hear though that the intellimouse software Microsoft use is spyware

    Jes computer prices.

    Logitech MX510 € 34,80
    Logitech MX700 € 59,90

    Mousepad Speed-Pad Transclear € 15,98

Used both the intelli mouse and the mx500, personally prefer the logitech but there's not much between them. If you want cordless option the mx700 is very good for 60 yoyo's. No need to spend a fortune on a mat either. The speed pad is great and only e16. It's nice and big as well so you don't have to lift the mouse often even on low sensitivity's with your fps's.

It also comes with a usb/ps2 convertor so you don't have to use the usb port if you need it.

    I seriously, seriously doubt this.

Me too. Anyway, you don't even have to use the Intellipoint software... Windows 2000/XP can use all the extra buttons without extra software. You'd only need to install intellipoint if you want to remap what the buttons do. The defaults suit me fine.

i find the mouse works better with out the Intellipoint software

go for usb too. it's hot swappable, better for laptops that might have 0 or 1 ps/2 ports, some legacy free mobos don't have ps/2 ports and apple computers haven't had them for years. my intellimouse expl came with a ps/2 usb adapter - not sure how it works, maybe the mouse can detect when it's in a ps/2 port and act like a ps/2 mouse.

    I said I heard it was, I don't know if it's true...
    "B-E-W-A-R-E SPYWARE Intellipoint point32.exe"
This mouse worked fine until I intalled WindowsXP Pro and new Intellipoint 4 drivers. Now, not only does the mouse freeze every minute or so, but I've got my Internet security firewall telling me the mouse driver is trying to access the Internet. This means that microsoft KNOWS when, where and how you're using their product. There is NO way to disable the products "automatic update" feature, during install or otherwise.
DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT unless you want to give your private info to Microsoft. Please sign a petition to join the class-action lawsuit against Microsoft for violating our INHERANT human rights to PRIVACY!

A bit OTT I know, but that was the first thing that came up when I googled it.

Yeah I must say I've noticed point32 trying to access the net for some reason.
And lately it seems installers for games and applications are trying to access the net aswell... without asking first or saying it's looking for updates or anything.
Had they actually asked and been honest about their reasons for wanting to access the net, I may have allowed it... but being sneeky like that means they get a nice shitlisting.

Yeah, I noticed that too, but I presumed it was checking for updated drivers or something.

If Microsoft we're using Spyware, there would be people getting really pissed off, and we would hear about it, wouldn't we?
