Accounts transfer

My server went pear shaped a while back. I've ordered a complete new system which I should have in a few days time.

My question is, is it possible to transfer user accounts, etc onto the new system?
My new disks will be 120GB disks and my old one was a 6GB disk. Its a school server and there are a few hundred accounts set up on it. I'd rather not have to do it all over again!!!

I don't have a CD-writer on my old server so I can't copy stuff to CD, etc. Can I mount the older drive and do some sort of copy from there?

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Mike

    Ok, details as requested:

Current system is SuSE 6.4 - changing to SuSE 9.0

System is used for user authentication, Samba sharing and users also store their files in home directories. I keep some original copies of software on the server and also have a directory of data files that are read only - all connected to via Samba. Its not used as a DHCP server at the moment, and its not a gateway to the net (both of these may be added in the future).

I saw something on a previous post (here) which suggested just copying over the relevant files and groups, etc so that I wouldn't have to do an adduser or use Wemadmin or some such utility to re-create all the usernames and directories.

I do not know much about SuSE but I will make the assumption you could just drop over the passwd, shadow and relevant group files, and the home directory....... and the /etc/samba also
