So if you configure it as a POP or IMAP server, then you can connect to it via Outlook Express.

when you are setting up outlook / outlook express to take the mail from my internal mail server is it just the ip address of the mail server (no dns running internally) to collect/send mail ...... i think !!!!

    again thanks for your time

(Mod might want to merge these threads together)

If you have it set up as a pop/smtp or imap/smtp combo, then you will need to specify the IP address for the benefit of OE or Outlook.

Exchange server works slightly differently in that all the mail is manipulated on the server. So once Outlook knows where the Exchange server is, it'll take it from there. The way a lot of companies use it, is to tie in in with the Domain Logon structure. So when a user logs into any machine, and opens outlook, all of their mail, settings and preferences (except for a few which are machine-specific).
