    are component and RGB the same? As regards a dvd player???

    not exactly, component video is *slightly* better supposedly, but that is debatable and you will only notice if you have a top quality TV. RGB scart is good and very compatible. There will be lots of more technical explantios if you search the web.

    cheers for that except it is a tad confusing!!! connectiong the dvd player to a lcd projector

    Ah! If you're connecting to a projector you should definitely use the component connectors. DVD disks are recorded in native component video format, and that is one of the video formats (the other being VGA) that your projector likes to receive the most. By using the RGB connectors, the DVD player is converting the video format, during which process some quality is lost (although this is not really noticable in fairness). There was a recent thread here and if you scroll about halfway down, there is a discussion in more detail regarding RGB and Component video, if you're interested of course!
